New 335i Owner, Rim Repair Advice Needed

Hi all,

I just took delivery of a 2011 335xi less than 2 weeks ago, and long story short, I hit a curb causing my rim to be scratched (as you can see from the outside diameter of the rim pretty much). Seems like since it was a very light hit, everything else is fine so far (wheel, alignment, etc). Anyone know how much something like this would cost to repair (when I need to repair it, no rush since its only cosmetic for now)? I live in Central NJ if anyone has any shops they recommend. Thanks for any advice...heck of a welcome to the BMW family but the hit was mostly my fault, lets not get into that lol

Any idea what something like this should cost? I've been reading around and saw ranges from $75-$150, is that about right or way too low/high etc?

Dash, do you think the repair kit will make it look like new? This is a lease, so in the long run, I'll eventually return the car (after 36 months, yup, 10 days into it kind of sucks). Of course things can happen between now and then but is the repair kit professional quality results or will I look into repairing it again near lease end? I do like the idea of a do it yourself project though.

It will make the wheel look like new as the kit is a direct match to the oe finish.. Some good sanding and application of the paint & clear and you are in business..

lol, that's not a bad idea. I may not mind having someone do it for me too at the right price (esp if they have the kit already), let me know, and thanks for advice so far.

I'd have a pro do it unless you have the skills - your car is brand new. BTW - I'm curious, do you have active steering?

Well based on Bobby Tam's response, if its only $125, I may do it at my dealer. I just noticed today, its not bad at all from afar, barely noticeable to the human eye so I probably will hold off for now. Wouldn't be surprised if I told my sales rep and got it done free anyway, built up so much goodwill with them already with 3 customer referrals (1 purchased).

I don't know if I have active steering, don't think I do but it wasn't an option when I got the car in the configurator anyway (its a 335xi sedan).

How does the bavauto wheel repair hold up? Does the putty shrink or dissolve over time? Thank you

I've dealt with this a bunch, I drive my 335i for work. If you have time to be without the wheel for 1 day, there's only one solution! Go to WheelsAmerica.com. They are right outside of PHILLY, and literally, do almost every bodyshop, wheel shop and dealer's tougher wheel repair work in the area.

You could definitely have a mobile wheel guy repair that wheel, too. He could do a good job, probably 95%. But, if you have a spare tire you can run for 24 hours or less, drop your wheel off to the guys at WheelsAmerica. Their work is phenomenal and crazy awesome. If the dealer sends your wheel out for the repair, you'll just be paying their markup for convenience. It's your call, good luck! I can vouch for them, as they just refinished (4) OEM BMW ///M wheels for me, which came out excellent.

The Alloy Artists in Clifton, NJ

I've gotten many wheels repaired there and they do a great job. Also a good opportunity to get new tires if you need them as they can mount the tires for you with their Sweet touchfree tire machine.

I had curb damages on my passenger side (blame my friend for that lol)

Anyway before I dipped my wheels in high gloss anthracite I filled in the damages with 3m bondo then sanded it down to the minimum and then dipped them. Can't tell if it had any curb damages.

"Dip your car" also has a guide online if you're repairing OEM WHEELS same silver color

F Them... they suck ass... brought my rims to them to fix bends and they scratched up the face. They don't have any space to park.

Your best bets are to go to ($100/rim fix all bends and powder coat any color):
http://needpowdercoating.com/

or if your in NY and just want to fix a bend ($50):
