335D Custom Tune + Meth: Dyno Results!

Hello All,

Finally managed to get my car on the dyno this weekend. We had a local car show (Berlin Klassic) this weekend and had a mobile dyno on site.

The dyno was a DynoDynamic unit that had been recently calibrated according to the operators.

At the time of the dyno run:

-Weather was aprox. 14 Degrees Celsius
-Atmospheric pressure was 101.03kpa
-Humidity was 67%
-Elevation was at 321m above sea level

The guys who ran the dyno were really nice, except it looked like it was their first time putting an E90 on a dyno.
Had no idea where the traction control was and also didn't strap the car down properly and it slipped a couple of times.
They also couldn't keep the car in gear and kept shifting on them making some runs useless.

However, after 3 pulls the 4th one ran flawlessly:

Got 345.5HP and 500ft.lb to the wheels! That puts me around 412hp & 598ft.lb to the crank

My setup:

- My custom tune (best run w/shifting issues put it at 307 rwhp)
- DPF/EGR/SCR + SCR Catalyst delete
- Muffler Delete
- CoolingMist CMGS Methanol at 50/50 ratio with CM10 nozzle

The tune has been running flawlessly for the last 3000km. No check engine lights, no issues with EGR or SCR at all. It will also pass emissions test!

I will be travelling soon to visit some members and get their cars tuned! I would be excited to see what numbers they make on their own setups and perfect this further.

Cheers

Nice work! Not much smoke coming out of that tune.

Have you done any data logging with this setup? Specifically AFR, EGT, IAT, Boost.

The custom tune that you speak of how comparable is it to JR stage 2 tune?

Not yet, my pump was busted for a while and fixed it myself the night before the car show. The motor brushed were worn & contact patch on motor shaft was burnt... easy fix with a sandpaper lol. Never buy a used methanol kit!

I will be doing data logs soon. I will be heading to a dragstrip soon to do datalogging there as well.

Smoke rolls hard when methanol kicks in fully (for a short period of time) but not so much without the methanol.

I have approximate gains of 100hp / 130ft.lb without methanol and concrete gains of 151hp / 173ftlb with methanol at 50/50 mix (will be doing another run in 2 weeks with 75/25mix) The dyno will be different this time (Dynojet unit). My numbers are conservative due to the nature of what happened on the dyno that day and I feel my car has suffered a bit when i drove it for 6+ months with a clogged SCR cat. I also had a carbon cleanup a year ago with methanol installed 2 months later. I feel that a perfectly maintained 335D can push more than what i achieved.

JR's advertised gains are 70hp and 95ftlb without methanol. I do not know though if his numbers were achieved using a straight exhaust and what dyno he used, atmospheric conditions, etc... Also my tune will pass emissions test and i haven't had a CEL after driving over 3,000kms since my last tune update. No egr and scr codes (i had those in the first version of the tune). I only have glowplug codes that are completely unrelated to my tune. My UREA/SCR tank is still installed in car with sensors connect and DEF mixer still in place in the exhaust.

My exhaust has a gutted DPF and gutted SCR catalyst with no mufflers at the back. I also have a 4" K&N cone airfilter but i doubt that would change any flow characteristics. I have it because i can hear the turbo better and actually hear the waste-gate vent. I am still a little kid at heart when it comes to noise

JR's Stage II tune leaves a little margin on EGTs. If you are actually gaining 100Hp without H20 injection, you were running in a dangerous region. Good that you will be data logging in the future.

JR's numbers are with SCR in place so that may put the 2 figures closer. Also, careful running anything more than a 50/50 mix of meth for detonation reasons. But if you are writing your own tune you may have to retard timing a bit.

Remember he's not running extra fuel like you are. Also, he has not adjusted SOI, like JR does. My guess is he can run higher meth % until ....

Until what?

Actually my issue is even with the extra fuel off. But I did assume he was advancing SOI somewhat for more power.
