3.0 Staight6 + Manual = Joy
Gave it some beans tonight.
You can take all your fancy new tech but there is something uniquely satisfying about winding a naturally aspirated engine through the rev range enjoying that linear power delivery. I guess the E90 was the last of the n/a engines be it V8 or straight 6. If you are young and have only ever had a car with torque boosted turbo's get yourself one whether it be a E46M3, 330i or 130i....its worth it. JB4 gives you all that and a lot more power on tap, why do you think the new M cars are turbo charged?

Personally I think the only reason manufacturers are turbocharging their cars is for emissions reasons, nothing to do with power output as turbos have been around for a long time and have only recently been introduced into more and more cars to bring them inline with new tax and emsissions laws for 2020

I've just sold an E39 M5 (literally tonight) and there is something very special about a powerful normally aspirated engine |

They are relentless and so smooth i have both the e46 and e90 330 and both run perfectly. The e46 is on 160k now too! Queue the ruin of my weekend when it blows up now I have said that.
335 would be nice but I would like an f10/f30 in 2-3 years and haven't had much luck with other cars lately so wanted to play safe. Plus finding a 4 door one with low mileage wasn't possible.

I switched my E36 328i for my 335i and I must say the M52 was a much more satisfying engine to Go on around with. By no way was it fast but it sounded so good

I've had A 330i, E46 M3's, E39 M5's and an E60 M5 before my current 335i. You can't beat a normally aspirated lump in my experience. The N54 in my 335i is hugely competent, and it even manages to sound pretty good too, but it's no S54, S62 or S85 when it comes to throttle response.
Emissions are leading the turbo resurgence, so they're definitely here to stay for our performance cars of the near future. |

I love the raspy exhaust on E46 M3s. When my 328i was cold it used to sound like one.
This thread needs some noise (how the feck do you embed videos?)

That's beautiful bud you must be gutted 😔
I have to say regarding this debate that the other day I heard a F10 M5 on the M8, the guy must have thought I was gonna try and get on to a slip road before him and gave it some beans, I just thought WTF!!! It was so muted compared to the E60 M5, Im not saying it was slow but there just wasn't the same aural abuse you get from the V10! But 10 out of 10 for ultimate Q car status as it was a dark blue colour and honestly looked like someone had just stuck quad pipes on a stock 5 series so I'm sure it would definetly surprise a few folk |

That's quite normal for ///M cars, they are fairly quiet as standard, my E39 M5 was until I fitted the Milltek, E60's are the same, you need to change the exhaust to hear the V10 sing
