Problem with Pad and Rotor Contact
I've done a bit of searching and I have an idea of what the problem is but I would like to turn it over to the professionals before I make a move. I've had my e92 328 for almost a month and had noticed a metallic almost grinding nose coming from the passenger from wheel well. After going and adjusting the dust shield with no results I jacked up the car and spun the tire. Half of its rotation is without issue, the other half of it's rotation the rotor and brake pad are making contain to the point that the wheel will halt it's spin.
To me..... I have a warped rotor.... Even exhibiting the typical vibration during braking along with the constant noise it makes from contact... But after reading on the issue here.... Brake build up, bedding, etc... I'm not sure what the problem could be. Could someone with more experience please help me diagnose the issue.. It's really making me more and more paranoid and I would like to get the issue resolved quickly. Thanks! |

Even brakes that don't vibrate will halt the spin as pad and rotor make constant contact which is not equal along all of the rotor service area since even brand new rotor is not perfectly straight and I believe 0.02 off tolerance is industry acceptable.
What you can do is this: -dismount everything and clean the hub from all debris and rust -sand down the rotor to breakaway pad build up -sand down the pads to remove glazing -install everything back -bed-in the brakes If the vibration doesn't go away you need to look into other possible causes: -warped rotor -hub out of round -bearings -bent rim -shifted tire belt -tie rods -control arms - steering rack -steering column shaft |
