N55 DME update

Does anyone know how to update BMW's DME software?

I am going to take it to the dealer on Tuesday to try to get it updated under a tsb. If this doesn;t work out, I'll have to pay or go to a third party to get this done.

I need to update it for my Cobb Flash to work. I'm taking my car to BMW to complain of issues regarding an outdated DME.

Doing it myself with winkfp, idk where to begin, and I'm pretty sure I don't have the wire for it...

I could do it for you remotely and lend you my cable but if the process is interrupted it can be risky. you would also need all software installed on your computer which takes up quite a bit of space

Do NOT let anyone flash your DME without using an ICOM head.

There is a good chance you will brick the module without an ICOM head.

You will also want to use a power supply on the car.....not a battery tender! You need a power supply that is capable of supplying AT LEAST a steady 40 amps.

You are correct in that ICOM is the safest option, although I've flashed plenty of DME modules with a k+dcan and I've never bricked one. Even ones that didn't complete I was able to go back and fix. You definitely need to know what you're doing. I'm also not lending out my ICOM.

Thank you all for the info, but unfortunatly I just had bmw code my DME for $175 since it is out of warranty. Dropped my car in the morning and got it back in the afternoon.

Anyhow, much would/do you charge for a DME update?

$75 but honestly $175 isn't bad for having the added comfort that if something goes wrong it's already at the shop and they will fix it. If you're interested in getting the software for yourself I can install it and get it running for you.

Yeah, I thought 175 wasn't horrible. I was hoping closer to 100 but it's not bad at all...I suppose there is no need for the software now right?

I plan on doing the Alpina B3 trans flash now that my DME is updated...and other misc. coding options like getting rid of the door gong. Do you offer any of these? I was going to go through Alex at alpine...Pm me for price and info

$175 is not bad at all. The dealers can only update the entire car. They do not have the option to just update a single module.

So you most likely have all the current software for all the modules in your car now.

Well the DME is very expensive. If you're willing to take the risk, that's on you.
