Glow Plug Controller
I have the following codes on my car:
49A5 4A74 4A79 My research says that it is my glow plug controller. Can anyone post any description for the above stated codes, or any related SIB(s)? Thanks! |

I had those exact same codes recently. Replaced the glow plug controller and reset the codes, and all is well. I can look up the details of the codes again once I get home, but replacing the controller should take care of those. I had all 3 of those exact codes.

The preheating control unit seems to be a common problem in the 335d. Mine was bad when I bought the car with 97k miles. It's a bitch to get to without removing the intake but possible. I found it the hardest to disconnect the connector X2402 (see picture). Curved needle pliers finally did the job.
My code was U0106: "no messages received - preheating control unit GSG". |

Glowplugs are cheap. I bought BERU for $10 / pc.
If you change the plugs frequently they will come out flawless. If you wait too long they may get more and more stuck. If a plug snaps you're forked. While you're at it always change plugs AND relay. Clean and lube the chambers in the engine head. I used a gun brush and ceramic paste.

Replaced the glow plug controller, all 6 glow plugs, and the coolant temp sensor. All good now. BTW, what is the average coolant temperature of the cars who are running the deletes? Mine stays in between 65-70C. I feel like the engine is running cooler than it should.

Temperature should reach 90° C after a few (like 10) minutes of driving and stay there
