cheap amazon cable question

ok so I'm guessing this question has been asked many times, I just can't seem to find a clear answer. I need to de-activate the adaptive head light feature (because of failling module) on my car.

Can I do that with any of these cables:

http://www.amazon.ca/AUDEW-Interface...productDetails

http://www.amazon.ca/Generic-Interfa...e90+inpa+cable

I don't really care about being able to do anything else or the cable lasting more than probably the 1h I need to set it up and disable the feature.

Thanks

This question has been asked many times. Don't try the Amazon cable. I had 3 that did not work. Use ************** cable.

The reason I ask is because I've read many threads with different information.... btw can you please spell differently the cable you mentioned as it`s been `hidden`by the forum... so nice of them...

go search for the thread about MHD and cables

all the info you will need is in there.

Or continue with what you are doing with no research. IDC

Don't need the attitude, I did do some research and I'll double check but I think that's the thread I've read (a few hundred pages...). And in that thread there was actually quite a discussion from where the boards for those cables that all look similar are from as some argued it all come from the same place (for the transparent cables), i saw some took it a part to compare them, etc... Also depending from where they came form, some worked and some didn't as some had different experience with the same freaking cable, don't assume I didn't do my research...(edit: maybe my understanding was so so and I could have spend more time reading, but I didn't just come in here and asked a question expecting to be fed the answer directly...)

But you know how it is, too much information is not necessarily better and I just wanted a confirmation of what I've read, especially since the only reason I want to buy this is to disable the adaptive headlight feature....

if you want to be cheap, try your luck with amazon/ebay cables. Maybe it will work and you saved $20, maybe it wont and youll be out thousands from a failed cable during a coding session.

you will never lose thousands over a failed coding session. VIN writing and programming is a different story. The cheap cables can work great but there was a period of time where the Chinese got outrageously cheap and started copying FTDI chips. FTDI wasn't thrilled about this so they essentially sent out malware in their driver packages to render the fake chips useless. Cable no worky. I have since read that FTDI stopped doing this and most new cables sold should work.

So buying the bimmer_software . com cable that is recommended for MHD tuning will also work for coding for LCI lights on a pre-LCI car?
