E46 Double Din Install

I know this an E90 site..... But I know there are some very wise men on here!!!

I have bought a 2004 E46 330i coupe.... It has the standard stereo, which to me is an antique next to what you can get these days.

I want to upgrade it to a double din pioneer stereo with Apple Car Play.....

Any advice / Tips ..... Even suggestions as to who could install in the Nottingham are.

Cheers

You can't put a proper double din in the e46 unless to cut the heater box behind the dash.

You can get cheap Chinese units which have a shallow depth.

Kinda. IIRC, the passenger either has cold or hot air.

You have to hack away at the heater box behind the stereo and seal it back up. You also need to cut the arm that seals off the footwell vents too so it leaves the footwell vents either on or off permanently, unless you could figure out a way of refabricating an arm to keep it working (member on e46zone managed this).

I'm sure either on amazon or ebay there was a seller that sold the whole kit like the fascia, cables, including a new piece to seal on the your heater box after you've hacked it away if that makes sense?

Have you joined up to e46zone? There's plenty of helpful members over there and a number of threads DIY'ing the fitting of a standard double DIN to these cars

I went for a single din, fold out monitor in my e46. Are fold out screens out of fashion now? They were the coolest back in my day

Have thought about that...... How did you get on with the screen blocking or maybe not blocking the centre vents????

They do look pretty cool 😎

They did cover the central vents actually, i just closed them off.
I do miss the curvy interior of the e46!

Google the Dynavin n6 may be the way to go. There is a thread in the audio section regards the n6 for the e90 .
