Alpina transmission flash experience

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share my experience performing the Alpina transmission flash.
I got a $40 cable from **************.com. Shipped promptly and quickly.
Set up my whole environment with INPA, EDIABAS, WinKFP, NCSExpert etc. on a dedicated windows XP 32bit virtual machine following available guides.

I did a little coding beforehand with NCS Expert, added some small features quite easily.

Then moved on to try the Alpina flash according to the DIY available here. Everything went fine, except I had the well known issue with the paddles not working afterwards.
I followed the guide to do a simple coding with NCS Expert (with no changes - basically a code of default settings - to my understanding), but either I did something slightly wrong, or my profile wasn't set correctly. I immediately got an error on iDrive that the car was stuck in park and couldn't move to D, N, R, etc. and it was indeed locked in park - I could not shift at all.
Scared me to death for a while, then went to try again, adjusted some profile settings in NCS Expert, tried again and it fixed the problem - and the paddles started working again

Really liking the flash so far. Crazy fast shifts in manual mode.

Afterwards, I was using INPA to check for errors because I have an unrelated starting problem (will post a separate thread) - and there were TONS of errors stored (20+ just for the DME module). I'm hoping it was due to this problem state it was in, so I cleared the errors and will check later today to see what comes back. Anyone any thoughts on that?

What modifications did you need to make to the profile for it to work? Also, which profile did you use initially?

Initially I was using my normal profile I used for coding, which includes the option to code from a MAN file (FSW-PSW manipulate with FSW_PSW.MAN). Also, after an initial failure, I was also copying my previous coding guide and setting the options "Basic Functions" -> "coapiReadSgGetFswPsw" and "Change Job" -> "SG_CODIEREN". Note that I only did this because the steps in the Alpina fix thread gave me an error (probably because of the profile). Also note that I did copy the TRC to the MAN file thinking I would be coding back the current settings.

Anyway, in the end, I disabled the option to use the FSW_PSW.MAN file, and I think I left the job at the default setting.

But, I find all the tutorials really confusing regarding the detail on profiles, jobs and basic functions. There is little info available on what the functions are doing, and referring to 'use the expert profile' is not useful when there can be multiple versions of the 'expert profile' with different options set. I'd love for every tutorial to say exactly which options have to be set in the profile.

Let me know if any of that doesn't make sense. I'm new to this and still finding my way.

This flash makes the automatic 6 speed much better, but the DCT is so much better already - be happy you have a DCT!
