interesting point Boyd, mine does the same with the Dension too (I have to press List)
are you thinking of doing the Alpine upgrade? If so I'd seriously recommend doing it yourself at the same time as your DAB (if you're still planning). The work you have to do to remove the back seat and access the MOST bus for DAB is half the same work you need to do for the Alpine I can recommend the Alp[ine by the way, and it is easy for me to say but I don't think it would be worth it if you paid the same again for fitting as for parts |

There is a local company with Autologic who will code the car for £50. I cannot remember exactly for the Alpine upgrade but I think it was just under £500 fitted. A couple of the dealers I spoke to were trying to charge £350 - £400 to fit the Alpine. . . .apparantly, it needed "coding" to the car I asked them to check and the service manager came on the phone to assure me this was the case. . . . . Unbelievable. |

I was thinking that I might ask whoever does the Alpine if they could make the necessary changes for the DAB to work. I have been thinking about the Alpine upgrade for the last 18 months and just can't decide whether it is worth spending so much money. I would do it myself if I was not so useless and cac handed. I couldn't even get the back seat lifted to install my current DAB aerial cable!!! I know that you have to tug pretty hard but it just would not come off. Can see me totally wrecking the door trim trying to install the new speakers so it's worth paying £150-£200 for somebody else to do it. |

i'm not sure it is worth the £500+ it costs to have it fitted by someone else, but like I said it's easy for me to say , I paid less than £300 for parts and did the fitting myself
it certainly sounds a lot better and louder but it is not revolutionary, which i guess you wouldn't expect it to be for the money. |

I just had this system installed by my local dealer and boy, do I wish I read this thread first.
I have a full 80-gig iPod and the iDrive will only show artists A-L and albums A-D. This renders half of my iPod inaccessible. Spinning the resistant iDrive knob makes it a chore to move just 30 artists forward. Every time you shut off the car and restart, it takes 3-4 minutes to load. If you are listening to a song in the middle of the list, and accidentally press stop, it will go back to the first song on the list and then you are spinning that damn resistant iDrive wheel for another 10 minutes. Ugh. If anyone can explain to me how playlists help this, I'd appreciate it. Right now I feel like I made a $600 mistake, and that is never a good feeling. |

80gig is A LOT of music do you need all of this at once? My music collection is close to 60gig but in itunes i only sync around 20gig at a time depending on what im listening to (might ease the load a bit) I also use the playlist route I never search by artist or album I just create play lists for all the albums in itunes and add all the correct songs. Then in the car just browse using the playlist option. Its lighting fast and loads up withing 3seconds after turning the car on. |
