need advice, injectors swap part numbers indexes
i been searching but i cannot find the answer to my question, this is for a 08 e93 with 77k
i currently have 6 injectors 7565138-05 and one if them is leaking bad and i need to replace it, my question is: can i replace it with another 138 with any index? can i replace it with a 13537585261 any index? or any specific index? do i have to do the whole bank? i understand that if i replace them with 13538616079(latest part) i can mix and match indexes as long they you dont go under index 11 but you have to the the whole bank at once. I am trying to stay as low as i can on spending on the injectors because im low on funds this month. any help or info is welcome |

you have to replace by bank, 1-3 and 4-6 cylinders.
index 10 and below can mix, but 11-12 are newer and have a higher flow value, or second number, I assume even when coded correctly they still do not mingle well in the same bank. I am going through this whole process, a shop replaced 1 of my injectors with a -12 index new one, and the rest of mine are -10, my car still doesn't run right so I am having the remaining 2 replaced, he said cyl 4 had slight miss fire as well so really the whole bank does need to be replaced. I will be keeping the 3 injectors and possibly getting them refurbished so I can have a backup for the first bank of injectors when they go out. also you can buy brand new -11 or -12 index injectors from Rock Auto for $120 and you can find a 5% coupon, and people around here say they have BMW stamped on them and should be OE. Also do not forget to have them coded with INPA or whatever, my shop didn't code the injector they replaced and it ran better after I coded it(and stayed up all night figuring out/loading INPA software), still not great as right now not all are the same in the bank. I'm surprised that besides the coding index and flow rate, nobody has mentioned the biggest difference, the construction of the index 11+ versus older style (except some index 09 and all index 10. Index 09+ looks very different than 01-08. Should be easy to spot.

Part numbers are interchangeable, it's the index number you have to worry about.
Indexes 01-10 work together and 11-12 work together. I.E., if you took a 261-09 it would work fine with your 138-05, whereas a 261-11 would not. But a bank could be 079-12, 079-11, 079-11 and be fine. Whether you want to mess with used injectors is another story. You have to put the new sealing ring on the new (used) injector and make sure it's not too stretched to use it. Probably would be ok if you found on of the original sealing ring caps to shrink the ring onto the used injector. |
