Accident advice...
morning all,
Unfortunately I need some help regarding a recent accident. It was 100% my fault as I read ended someone in some busy traffic, I'm not disputing liability. The issue is my insurance company, who for now will remain unnamed. Taking into consideration my policy was fully comp the insurance company have advised I must pay my excess (as expected) and on top of that the repair costs to me vehicle. Has anyone heard of this before? Really have no idea where to go from here Any advice is really appreciated. Thanks |

That sounds a bit f'ed up.
Are they saying you are negligent to get out of paying?

Have they provided a reason they're not paying out for your car?
I'd suggest you get some legal advice. If their reason isnt justified, then take it to the insurance ombudsman. |

Sounds like your insurance is only covered third party, fire and theft and not fully comprehensive as you may have thought I'd they are stating that.
I'd get your policy docs out and confirm because if you are indeed fully comp then they can't refuse as that's the whole point.

My first thoughts were that you only have third party.
But then, thinking about it, if you only have third party insurance why would they ask you for an excess as this applies to repairs to your own vehicle. This, in the words of my preferred insurer. Q. Do I have to pay an excess if only the other party is claiming? A. An excess is the amount you pay towards your own repairs or claim, so you don't have to pay an excess for a third party's claim. Also, if you don't claim for your own damage, you don't pay an excess either. Last edited by smuler; 10-19-2015 at 04:31 AM.. |

Providing you hold a fully comprehensive policy that has not been invalidated in any way, your insurer should be paying for the repair costs, less any applicable excess.
As mentioned already, I'd check your policy documentation to confirm you have a fully comprehensive policy and there's no special terms and conditions they've sneaked in. If all okay, then I'd suggest contacting your insurer to ask why they've asked you to pay for the repairs and to provide in writing if necessary. Paul |

If you are 100% fully comp, then they should be paying, else what is the point of insurance.
Phone them and record their calls, and if they still insist you have to pay take them to the ombudsman and screw them for every penny you can. Make sure you record everything, how much time you spent calling them, and how much stress it caused you. |

This is a strange thread with a plot hole in it... Unless I'm missing something.
You get in an accident, it's your fault but you're fully comp. Your insurance company tell you that you are to pay for the cost of getting your car repaired. My first question to you is...... you didn't question them about this? And instead you query it with us?? Or are we misunderstanding what you are trying to explain.... and what you mean is that your insurance company want you to pay for your repairs directly to the repairer, and then they'll reimburse you at a later date?? |
