HELP NEEDED!! Head light restoration gone bad

Guys I need some help! I have been working on restoring my head lights and fog lights. So far the fog lights have came out great but the head lights are not working so well. When I started sanding, it just wasn't having the same effect as it did on the fog lights take a look at the pictures below and see if you can tell whats happening.

I am using the 3M restoration kit and I used all the grits and polish correctly.

Here are the fog lights where the left hasn't been worked on and the right is finished.

Is it possible there is a sealer on the head light that I haven't penetrated through?

You must have not followed the steps properly. Basically how it goes is after each step your going to look and think, what did I do wrong, but as you finish the last step, all the fog will polish out. My fog lights were absolutely destroyed, now they're almost perfect. Just keep polishing as the steps say and they will come out good.

I did do the steps correctly because they worked perfectly fine on the fog lights

It doesn't look like you have a uniform surface on the headlights. Try staring at the higher grit again and really work your way down slowly

I dunno about your headlight but Holy Cow! That fog light looks amazing. Most people ignore the fogs.

Yeah, you need to sand that headlight ALOT more. Don't get lazy. Or get a drill attachment.

Yup your right. It just took a LOT of sanding and eventually I got whatever coating was on there and once I was past it, the headlight was sanding properly.

I only got one headlight done because it took a long ass time and it still didn't come out as good as the fog lights so I'll have to go at again later. I'll get to the other headlight later this week.

The fog lights are the main reason I started this. I use them all the time and I was getting tired of how nasty they looked.

Thanks for you help guys.

Here's what I was dealing with. Basically everything had been sanded in this picture but in the corner where the coating hadn't been worn off, the sanding was not having any effect. It was kinda strange but after enough sanding with the 500 grit, eventually it came off.

Ill chime in and say maybe your drill wasnt strong enough. If you were using a cordless forget about it, those things are so all over the place with power.

To be honest the 3m kit is not as good as the Maguiars kit. I did mine with 3m kit few years ago and was ok good but then, i did more research and the went with the Maguiars few months ago as my lights were even more dull and pitted. Results came out excellent even better that the fist time i used 3m. Even after 3 months my lights still look very good.

Try Maguairs. Make sure is the super duty one. Forgot whats called.

id suggest putting lamin-x film over your headlights after restoring them...now that you've taken the protective coating off them... they will haze up again easily if they are not protected. use a really good sealant or the protecting film. I know some guys who have put opti-coat on their lights after doing this. and reapply after a year
