I've said it on this link before, but having used both, definately go for the 453.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=815950&page=2 This also covers why the rating scheme is not meaningless, but note it is not necessarily the full story either.

Ive had 453s on for 3k miles now. Tbh, Ive had no problems. I drive hard, I only get 24/25mpg on my 325d. Even in the wet or bends they seem fine, tested up to 140mph for 10 mins lol..
Like 2 months ago I was like you struggling to choose but falkens are not that bad at all. Its prob cheaper to replace falkens more often then buy expensive brands. (Just my opinion)

453 wear rate is quite good. Better than a premium tyre. So it's cheaper all around .. .
But it's not better. And anyone who thinks it is is deluding themselves. Sorry ![]() If you want a good compromise it's a fine choice. But it's not a high performance tyre..

I have always gone on about how poor I thought the 452s were, OK for the price but hard and noisy compared with PS2s for example, and although they grip nearly as well when they let go they really snap.
However, went in a 7 series on 20s with the 453s fitted on Monday and was seriously impressed with them, much quieter and comfy, he had 452s before and I wasn't impressed, he had come from run flats and thought they were great, but I could tell they were still a bit hard and noisy. Liked them so much so we put a set on the 5GT yesterday, initial impressions are very, very good. |

Do not use the 452. They are dreadful, had them in a 17" profile and they were the worst tyre i have ever used. Rubbish in both wet and dry conditions.
Thought of trying a michelin or a goodyear? |

That's an exaggeration or else you've not tried many tyre types. Furthermore there are plenty of terrible Michelin and Goodyear tyres (and some extremely good ones of course. ). So why the lack of detail? I'd fathom that you don't have that much experience at trying many different brands of tyre out. But I could be wrong - obviously.

ok so lets just sum this up
Falkens, the 452's are a great "budget" tyre NO ONE is saying they are the best, and yes of course there are MUCH BETTER options out there! for the price the falkens are good but NOT SO GOOD IN THE WET the 453's are better in the wet and rate overall slightly better than the 452's 452 overall a good budget tyre with a lovely tread pattern! which i think is what people are drawn too first! as we have established plenty times on this thread and know ourselves, the likes of Conti's, Pirelli's etc are much better but they are a PREMIUM TYRE so you get what you pay for people buying the Falkens ARE NOT expecting them to be the best tyres in the world...they are in the middle, not bad! **** the issue that me and Tyso face at the moment is that no other premium or mid range budget tyre comes in the sizes that we wanted! so thats the first instance of our choices being limited already! **** could have gone for a set of nankangs....but im sure you would all agree the Falkens are a way better options compared to them! lol but this is the main reason for this post! other tyres are not really an option in the sizes we want...because they simply dont make them!!

Ive had all brands from rfts to non rfts. My favourites on 335i 19 inch were continential p5s non rft and michelin pss non rft but they both only lasted 15000 kms on the rears so that was a little disappointing but no question about performance and quality as they were exceptional. From rft selection my favourite was pirelli p zero. Excellent grip in wet and dry as well as durability as they lasted me 24000 kms but being a rft inevitably felt harsh over hard surfaces. Tomorrow I am taking off the bald conti 5s and chucking on falken 453s for the first time. A bit of a downgrade but i am willing to compromise for durability. Worst tyres were without a doubt were factory spec Bridgestone rfts for 335i. Keep you all posted.

First off this thread is two years old...
I would be pretty surprised if the 453's outlast the Conti or Michelins. Never run any myself, i've always stuck to Goodyears Eagle F1's, but on my old car the Eagles lasted nearly 25000 miles |

I ran 452's on my Megane sport and held corners perfectly.
For some reason when I brought my E90 I couldn't find 452's in my size so I opted for the 453 and been running the same set for 13 months now no problems at all ![]() |

Nice thread revival LOL
452's were decent, I ran them on a couple of cars and they were good for the money, the 453's are not as good by all accounts, so I never went down that route

go for the 453. However i wouldn't have either... Falken are not a premium brand and i vouched after having a 452 on my 306 gti6 I would never touch them again. They were shocking in the wet and dry.
Personally I would look at Goodyear excellence or a similar pilot sport 3. Worth spending the money on. |

The Falkens used to be around £55 for a 255/35/18, and when a Michelin etc. was £140 for the same size, they made sense.
However, they are not a great tyre at all, and now you can buy things like decent Goodyears and Dunlops for pretty much the same price as a Falken why bother? I had 453s on the 5GT, they were fairly quiet and comfy at first, but soon dropped off after about 3000 miles, plus in the damp they were crap. |
