M3 Gauge Cluster Retrofit and Dealer Service
Hi all,
I've recently run into a problem with the M3 gauge cluster and dealer servicing of my vehicle. I bought the car used from a friend and already had the M3 cluster retrofit done to the car. This was about 2 years ago and unfortunately my friend no longer has the original cluster. I currently have my car in at the dealer to take care of a few issues (exhaust rattle, adaptive headlight failure, navigation map updates) and my service advisor is stating they cannot update the software on my car due to the cluster not being the one the car came equipped with. Has anyone else with the M3 cluster retrofit had any issues with having software updates performed on their vehicle? I would definitely prefer not to buy a new stock cluster just to have these warranty issues taken care of, but it looks like I may have to. If anyone here has had experience with this and can offer advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. |

What software they say they can't update? The idrive should have nothing to do with cluster, since they are two different unit. But I'm not 100% sure.
If it is the NAV map, then you can find a vendor to down load one, then update with USB drive. I did mine for $50. |

The dealer always updates the entire car at once. So wrong/retrofitted/malfunctioning modules will not allow the update to proceed.

Dealer was giving me shit about my cluster when I did the LED mod when my rear brake sensor went off and the brakes were still fine. The rear sensors fail and he tried putting on me the cluster is wrong. Later that year when I went to finance the car since the lease was up, the salesman made sure the tech guys fixed it. Sure enough it was replaced for free.

Unless is not done correctly and is not interfering no dealer should refuse to service your car due to Magnuson-Moss Act. Good luck! |

I can't see why there would be an issue updating with the M3 cluster. Assuming you did update KOMBI via Expermodus, it will be setup properly for the car.
