As I and others have stated, even if there was 4K content, it's not the end all be all for ultimate picture quality. Being able to do fundamentals like black levels, contrast ratios, proper RGB reproduction, no motion artifacts, is what makes a good video picture. The two links I've posted above provides an industry expert's break down and discussion about this.

There's a reason why the 9/9.5G Kuros (a TV that is about 10 years old) are still held in high regard and should say something about the lack of focus from manufacturers and consumers on emphasizing picture quality rather than coming up with the next specmanship gimmick.

Smart TV's are only good for people who really need them, I don't.
4K content isn't there and is a long way off. The benefits are also questionable.
OLED and Plasma > Everything else
Pioneer = Best Plasma TV's Ever Made (I grabbed the last non-Smart TV Samsung I could last year)
Content Providers suck ass across the board and rape you.

I am just waiting for the 65" OLED to come down in price and then I'm all over it. The Samsung plasma I bought last year was so I could have a "good TV" in the bedroom when the OLED I want gets to the price I want to pay.
Pretty much sums it all for me as well. Never really understood the "why not, I can afford it" philosophy. You're paying a high premium for something that's hardly usable in the next year. Not really financiallly wise. Oled is best but comes at a premium. Quantum dot is actually something close but affordable. HDR content is still non existant and will come gradually, pretty sure at a high premium. 4K is affordable and is a negligible factor in the selection of a new tv, just makes sense for a >55" tv. This year is actually the best year to buy a good tv for less as they roll out newer HDR tvs and focus on it at CES 2016

I haven't read all the comments on this thread so excuse me if its a repeated comment. 4K technology is superb if it's combined with a high speed processor. The faster the processor the less choppiness like a baseball game when a pitcher throws a fastball and you don't see a slight light trail. I have a Samsung 4K curved TV with a 280 processor and people are amazed at the quality of the picture compared to other non 4K tvs. Of course the viewing distance is also very important and do is the ambient lighting in the room you are watching it. My only problem at the moment is there's not enough 4K content but soon it will be everywhere.
