Hey all i thought it might be good to have a thread to help others know of issues you had and how you diagnosed them.

Ill go with mine.

2007 335i N54

turbo wastegates.

Symptom - loud metalic rattle on start-up and loud rattle when revs dropped to around 3k.

Diagnosis - removed both vacuum pipes and revved the engine, rattle went away, replaced them and rattle came back.

Camshaft bearings, vanos gears.

Symptoms - half light eml, engine vibrations, long cranks.

Diagnosis, EML - cam shaft position, Vanos solenoid jamming/ sticking.

Radiator

Symptom - leaking pink fluid from front drivers side.

Diagnosis - checked colour of fluid from tissue and found crack along radiator seem.

HPFP

Symptoms - long cranks, engine stutter, struggle to maintain revs in warm up.

Diagnosis - BMW main dealer.

O2 sensor.

Symptoms - Service engine light

Diagnosis - Error code pre cat O2 sensor error.

Timing chain
Symptoms - noisy ticking/swishing sound.
Diagnosis - BMW main dealer - fixed by them under warranty.

Glow plug control unit
Symptoms - fault codes
Diagnosis - by myself with DIS - fitted replacement unit.

DPF
Symptoms - reached end of life - fault codes
Diagnosis - by myself with DIS - fitted replacement unit.

Aux water pump
Symptoms - didn't work anymore
Diagnosis - by myself with DIS - fitted replacement unit.

Outer rear ball joint
Symptoms - scary handling on left hand bend!
Diagnosis - BMW main dealer - replaced joint at indy.

Worn shock boots
Symptoms - none
Diagnosis - BMW main dealer - fitted Bilstein B12 by myself

Injectors: Very rough idle (Misfires) at cold start only with warning light, warm start was fine and no warning lights when driving.

Valve Cover - Took engine cover off and inspected - found to be cracked
