Crankcase Breather
Hi All,
Does anyone know if a E91 330D 2006 needs a filter or a Venturi within the breather casing? Its just i took mine off yesterday and there is nothing in it, looking on real OEM and they don't seem to list a filter of any sort apart from the casing and the rubber seals. Numbered on real OEM as 11127794597 Any ideas? Thank you in advance |

I've got a E90 330D 2006 and checked mine and I don't have anything inside the breather case either.
Might be worth looking at the below link, but as far as I'm aware our cars don't seem to have anything inside the breather box. Not sure if it would be beneficial to put one in though? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=breather |

The question is, why is the filter necessary for some engines and not other? If 330d works just fine without a filter inside the breather, why doesn't 320d?

There is a diaphragm inside the breather that can be broken. BMW recommends a change every 3rd oil change AFAIR. When I got the car I bought a new one just to be on the safe side.

The diaphragm does not do anything as the vac nipple that sucks it shut isnt used. So why is it there, who knows but when you take it apart look at it closely and you can see what I mean. No there isnt anything inside these breathers, people telling you to change them havent looked. Pretty unlikely to block arent they as there isnt anything to block ? The bore sizes are plenty large enough.

The purpose of the filter/vortex is to knock some of the oil vapour out of suspension in the breather flow, and return it to the engine.
As for why they didnt bother fitting one on the 6 cylinder, i'm not sure. Perhaps the design of the crankcase on the 4 cylinder engine is more susceptible to churning up the oil and thus they added the additional separator? |

Hi All,
Judging by all your kind comments, it is obvoius there is no need for a filter in the housing on the 330d engine. I leave it as it is. Thank you all |
