I had same creaking noise, was fixed last week under warranty at BMW free of charge, worksheet said "lubricate lower steering bush", all sorted now.

Hmm, mine does something similar, usually only when going from lock to lock while stationary or at low speeds, but i've no idea what a "steering bush" is...
Almost all the suspension/steering joints on these cars are either sealed or arent something that you'd lubricate. I figured it was a bad top mount bearing on mine. |

It is a lubrication fix & not covered under warranty! Neither is the other fault I have - belt causing a noise on car start up!
But they did find a leak from the rear axle which is covered..... swings & roundabouts |
