Who ditched the alpina TCU flash?

I wanna know if anyone every switched from the alpina tune back to stock.

If you have the alpina flash, you probably already know how D mode can get annoying as it switches gears at like 1300rpm leaving you at 6th gear going 35mph.

The problem is that I'm having to use my shift paddles more just to downshift and pass cars. If I don't, my car will be pushing like 15psi at 1400rpm on 6th gear trying to pass a car and that isn't good. D more is just too unpredictable, sometimes it shifts fine when I have a heavy foot off the line but if I don't I'll be stuck on a high gear.

I love S and M mode but I drive on D mode most of the time. I'm thinking of switching back. How bad is the stock tranny when shifting gears? Is it that much slower?

I didnt switch back by choice, dealership updated my software without letting me know, but I havent reloaded it back on yet (2 months-ish). Of all my laptops, the only one i was able to get to connect and write to the car just so happens to be the only one that randomly shuts off now, so i havent wanted to risk it.

There is a noticeable difference in how the car reacts when in S and M mode as far as speed and smoothness of shifting. Stock is slower and sometimes not as smooth. And S mode just tends to pin to redline.

Only benefit is D mode doesnt shift so early, but I tend to drive in M mode 80% of the time anyway, so that doesnt matter as much to me.

As with csu87 , I tend to drive in M mode about 90% of the time. I'm willing to sacrifice the usage of automatic (D Mode) in order to enjoy the streamlined experience of crisp, responsive and engaging shifts offered by the flash.

Seeing as how the way the stock tranny reacts is still fresh in my mind, I would never go back unless I was absolutely forced to. To me, stock tranny feels archaic and lethargic--not worth it when you're aware that there's better imo. Once you've flashed the Alpina software, it's incredibly difficult to make an argument as to why one would want to go back to stock, even with the (to most people apparently, as I'm not bothered by it) 'subpar' D mode.

I switched back but that was only because I took it in to get the turbos replaced under warranty. That was about a year ago, never flashed back since I didn't do it myself. Can't say I miss it all that much.

I've thought about flashing back, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm sure it's weird, but I like being able to see what gear I'm in in D mode. I recently decided to flash the linear throttle map with MHD, and for some reason it just made the tcu flash so much better in D mode for me. I can push the pedal down further and not feel like I'm going WOT, and in turn, it seems to hold a gear a bit longer. When I accelerate to get on the highway, the car shifts into 6th around 60-65 mph. If you have the option to go with a linear throttle map, I'd suggest trying it. If you're already using linear throttle, then I guess you're SOL. Just my .02.

Yeah I tried linear throttle with COBB, and noticed that if you put your foot down more it will switch gears in higher RPMs, the problem is with linear throttle you need a heavy foot and I don't have that when it comes to daily driving. But thanks for the suggestion

Yeah I agree with you, I remember stock TCU would shift a little harsh and not as smooth. I'll try driving it more on DS mode but even then I feel like 1st and second gear is too strong when driving in the city. I just cannot find middle ground

just kick it over to "s" mode when you need to pass or throttle quickly. Then bump back over to "d" mode to continue cruising.

I thought about flashing back because of the hate towards D mode but the shifts would be too slow without the flash.

I just can't believe anyone at Alpina actually thought this was practical mapping for drive mode. In 4th gear by like 25 MPH LOL
