I have an auto 2007 bmw 328xi e91 pre-LCI with a sports steering wheel but no paddle shifters.

Just picked up an M3 DCT steering wheel with paddles (plus and minus). I also picked up the paddle shift retrofit kit from burger motorsports.

The M3 wheel does not have the exact model of steering wheel controls/switches/multi-function buttons that is called for specifically in the burger motorsports instructions. Apparently their kit only works with this specific model.

I still need to check if my sports wheel has this model, but I am doubtful as I googled it and one of the buttons has a different image than what my wheel (and the M3 wheel).

So my questions are....

What do I need to do to the paddles to get them to work with my car? Will they work unmodified? Do I need to move some pins? Do I need to install some resistors?

I have heard that I can tap directly into the clock spring to get the switches that I have to work, although I do not know what that means or how to do it or if I do that and still use the burger retrofit kit. Something about checking the clockspring for voltage when shifting the shifter...
