I think the you have to restart the car within a certain time after removing the key, and don't open the drivers door.

Tried to restart the car about five seconds after the key had been removed, hadn't opened the door -

Hmmm - very strange, you did remember to press the brake when starting? I'm pretty sure you don't need to do anything else.
