Angel eyes nightmare!

**FIXED**

Hello Guys!
My angel eyes are driving me crazy
To cut the long story short, I retrofitted oem bixenon headlights in my 11 320d msport. First thing I did was modifying my harness and swapped pin 5 and 6 to allow the shutter to work as the high beam, Added a new ground wire into pin 2 and another wire into pin 7 to allow the 3 corner leds to work. I tapped pin7 to the xenon low beam so the 3 leds turns on with the dipped headlamp so I can have only the angel eyes alone w/o the 3 leds as DRL. Started coding my frm3 basis and added $522 to both frm and cas. Turned off the auto leveling feature and coded the bixenon shutter to wert_1 and worked perfectly.

The only error I had on inpa was left & right parking light error though I disabled the cold and warm checks. Anyway the angel eyes were working fine but drl and the parking lights (when moving the stalk left or right incase yr parking in a dark road) were not working. I didn't bother and installed h8 40w led angel eyes kit as they are easier to install when the headlights are still out the car. At that point everything was absolutely perfect for 1 month until the driver side angel eye stopped working. I thought it might be and error that needs clearing however there were no any errors on frm other than the usual parking light fault. Checked the bulb and wiring and all was fine, installed the oem halogen bulb with no luck. I ran a scan on all modules and noticed an error on the CAS module that I don’t remember, the moment I cleared this error the Rt angel eye came back to life immediately.
I thought it might be just a glitsh until last week when I noticed while driving that the Lt angel eyes stopped working, few minutes later I noticed the Rt side stopped working as well. Put the laptop and a new errors appeared on the frm 1 was for a short circuit and the other 2 were for the Left and right cleareance lights “begrenzungslicht”. Checked the CAS and no errors. Searched google on how to sort this out and learned to reset the short circuit counter on tool32. Every time I reset the counter to 0 and turn on the headlights, both bulbs jumps up to 17 short circuits in the counter. Put back the oem h8 bulbs and reset the counter and luckly the left side started working again. So the counter was = 0 for the left and =17 for the right

Spent a whole day trying to understand the reason why the Right side is not working, Checked the harness for any brittle wires, removed the harness pins cover to check for any water leak and everything looked fine. Started thinking about a physical short in the frm so updated it with latest V56.2 daten along with the CAS and the junction box module with no luck, removed the VO522 and no luck, flashed the original TRC file and still no luck.

Yesterday I gave up and removed the harness and sprayed electric contact cleaner on it and left it to dry.Today when I was driving back from work I noticed the Left side stopped working again!!! I’m really stumped and don’t know what else could be the problem with those bloody headlights?? I’m sure there is no point to visit the stealer as they will simply say the frm is faulty and u need a new one.
Need your help guys if someone had a similar problem or a solution in mind for this..

Cheers!

This might not be helpful, but have you tested the angel eyes on a standard 12v dc power supply to make sure they still work?

Check the FRM module itself for water damage.

If the grates under the hood struts become clogged, water can overflow into the cabin, dripping on top of the FRM.

Oh, well if the halogen bulbs dont work then its fairly safe to assume that its not the bulbs. Just figured it was worth a shot.

Similar issue with FRM and angel eyes

My left LED angel eye quit working when the H11 bulb above it blew. Evidently this was enough to wig out the FRM into not providing power to the circuit. After buying new LED angel eyes and H11 bulb it still did not work. Checked the angel eye connector plug voltage to find their was no voltage present. I ended up buying an iCarly setup (software and OBD2 connection) to reset the FRM. I shut off the voltage monitoring function for that angel eye light in the FRM. It worked again after the FRM was reset to not monitor voltage. Evidently the LED angel eye was never the issue, the blown H11 buld caused it.

The best part of this is I ordered the LUX H8 160 angel eyes before I knew the others were still good. The previous angel eyes I had looked good (4 LED). The new ones are even better/brighter.

Did you PHYSICALLY check to see if there are any shorts?

I checked the harness for any water residue and removed the all the black tape on the wires and didn't notice any signs of damage. Do u have in mind something else i should do?

Check for continuity between wires with a multi-meter.

I don't think clearing the debris from the grate caused the faulty angel eye to start working again.

If it did, it was purely a coincidence.

my car is alive and didn't want to look at me because i neglected it.. i thought maybe the frm might have got a tiny issue from overflow by blockage and maybe was just lucky.. it had rained a few days before, and i hadnt driven it..

FINALLY FIXED!
Turned out the left side led angel eyes had a tear in the wire inside the capacitor box which made a continuous short-circuit. Replaced with a brand new led set and reset the short circuit counter and all good!
