Hey guys/gals,
So my car started to idle weird on start up, but within 5-10 seconds, it smoothens out and runs just fine. I know this isn't a huge issue, but it is annoying and I would rather fix whatever is wrong now.

So, I received a check engine light and went to check it out (couple months ago).
My car was giving me
P054B - Cold Start Exhaust (b) Camshaft Position Timing Over retarded (bank 1).

I did some online troubleshooting and it led me to believe that my camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. So I replaced the part and noticed no change.

Now I am getting,
P054B - Cold Start Exhaust (b) Camshaft Position Timing - Over-retarded (bank 1).
P0015 - Exhaust (B) Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Retarded (bank 1)
P13BC - No DTC definition found
P13B6 - No DTC definition found
P0365 - Camshaft Position Sensor B circuit (bank 1)

I'm on the verge of throwing in the towel and taking it into the shop, but I want to give it a good shot to fix it myself. I'm in the military and between coming and going so much, and only having 1 place within 100 miles that can work on my car, my options are limited.

One thing that I do have on my side is that I can get parts for really cheap so if anyone has experienced symptoms like this before or can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Did you get a genuine BMW camshaft sensor? BMWs never seem to like aftermarket sensors...if it's not genuine, I'd switch the old one back in since the new one didn't fix the problem. Is your battery healthy? I'd check that first to eliminate any weird electrical issues.

Then maybe try swapping the VANOS solenoids?

My battery has been giving me increased charge warnings for a while now, but I didn't think it could cause any issues like this. and for the camshaft sensor, I don't remember exactly who made it, but I think it was made by bosch?
