DME Malfunction

My 2008 335i recently became completely non-functional so I had it towed to a dealership as it was the closest option. They gave me a ridiculous quote for $5500 to replace 6 fuel injectors, 6 spark plugs, the low pressure sensor, and the DME. I know the DME should still be under warranty. However, the dealership claims that the fuel injectors were leaking fuel onto the DME which caused it to malfunction. This explanation seems preposterous.

Here are my questions:

Is it even possible for the fuel injectors to leak fuel into the DME?
Wouldn't the fuel either a) evaporate or b) catch on fire before it even had the chance to make it to the DME.
Even if it did make it to the DME wouldn't the same two scenarios apply?

Basically, it seems they are try to come up with a ridiculous claim that the fuel injectors caused the DME to fail and not the other way around. The former would cost me $5500 and the latter should seemingly be covered under warranty. Who's right in this situation?? If this dealership does not budge off of their claim what can I do? Thanks in advance for your help

Of course that's not possible, at least not as you relayed it here. You've got a few options. First, speak with the service manager, ask for a written explanation for their 8 year / 80K mile Federal emissions warranty denial so that, per your rights outlined within your warranty book, you can contact both BMW NA and the EPA about the denied coverage. You can also bring the car to a different dealership, although I would call first, explain the situation to the service manager, and see what he/she has to say about the first dealership's response.

leaking injectors cant't kill your DME but shorten coils can so if i would start with replacing all 6 coils and also DME mosfet could be repaired and they are not expensive. All in all maybe 500usd without injectors

LOL the DME is nowhere near the intake system, so call back the SA and tell him he's an idiot. Possible a coil could hurt the DME but it's rare. How long did you run with the check engine light on?

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Did you ever get the problem fixed? I have a 2007 335i in the shop now with the same issue due to fault code (30BA) DME: INJECTORS 1, 2, 3 OR DME, INTERNAL FAULT. Vehicle was out of 8yr/80k federal warranty and out of CPO warranty.

BMW SIB 12 02 08 calls for to replace the DME and ignition coils if that fault appears.

I gave her an estimate for a new DME and new ignition coils but it was still too much for her.

I found a place that repairs DMEs for that particular fault code and I'm suppose to get it back today. I have some doubts that it will work but the company offers a guarantee so we'll see.
