koni yellow/springs to coilover
so i have had koni yellows and bmw performance spring on for the past year and a half. i also have m3 front control arms, e93 m3 fsb, and whiteline rsfb inserts. last year i managed 7 track weekends and i am shooting for 10 this year. basically i set the konis rears and adjusted them once and have been that way from a week after i had them. the fronts i adjusted a handful of times. its not that i dont like them but it would be nice on track days to firm everything up a little so was thinking coilovers. i am seriously considering ST XTA or the the Standard suspension that Mfactory is selling just so when i get to the track i can tighten everything up a little with ease and still have a daily driver. and the both have camber adjustments. i almost pulled the trigger but then thought, wait its winter here in NY so i have a few months to ask around and get some advice.
So my question is for those who have had koni yellow with some sort of upgraded springs and moved on to coilovers was it night and day? did you regret it? Was the comfort the same? i was thinking of going around 360 front/560ish rear lbs for the springs. any help is appreciated. thanks |

The single advantage to a coilover suspension is adjustability. Problem is, folks want to adjust it, and since most folks have no idea what they are doing, the advantage is lost for most of us. And the truth is, to get it right (for a specific track or driver), one needs access to different springs, and scales to get the corner balancing correct. All this requires time and money, and a fair amount of both. With that said, most folks who do a coilover suspension convince themselves they are happy with it, and many are. As a practical matter, unless you have the time and resources to do the development, you should at least buy a suspension that has a lot of development history behind it. It can be fun (or frustrating) to tinker with, but, you will probably get comparable benefit from a good spring/damper set.

i would think your car, which is still a street car, has suspension that is more than good enough for your track days especially with the mods you made, to go faster you should think about upgrading your brakes/tires etc, and yourself with high performance driving lessons.
