E90 320D front caliper sticking

Finally worked out why my mpg was so low. Sticky front right caliper as disk was very warm compared to the left.

Had a search n couldn't find the answers I was looking for so hoping for some help on here

First question - is it a new caliper or a service/repair
I don't mind spending the money if that's what's needed but is it better?

Second question - it is worth updating them to the 6 cylinder engine brakes. Is it worthwhile? What needs changing to accommodate them?

Thanks in advance

Service repair is sometimes possible. You might need new disks too though as it's probably warped.

You can get new caliper + discs + pads fairly cheap if you shop around and know where to look.
I'd not bother with 6 cyl brakes unless you are a really hard braker. You'll need 2 calipers, pads, and discs at least. Looking at £600+ for all that

Is the car turning to the right? If not it doesn't have anything to do with your bad mpg. You might want to remove the pads and clean/lube the guiding pins and shit. Check the sealing boot. If it has a puncture or it has popped outa it's grooves and the caliber piston in fact is stuck it can be refurbished (repair set)

I have a pair of front calipers that I removed from my car when I upgraded to a 330D setup that I would sell for cheap (30£ for the pair)
they are high mileage, around 180k. but they were working perfect when I removed them (I had a nearside rear caliper sticking, which prompted the upgrade)

so it could either be a cheap fix while you source something else, or you could even get them refurbed and fit them, save your car being off the road for an extended period.

where about's in Glasgow are you?

Disks dont warp for no reason.

Its very likely that it is the caliper thats at fault, and has caused the disk to become warped.

^^ What he said. If the disc is warped it could be because the caliper is stuck and causing it to overheat.

Lots of flooding recently and driving through water.

My assumption is warm brakes and water = warped

The caliper was sticking on the 2 sides of the disk that were warped. New disk on and it's not catching at all. Up to 39 mpg about town now so we're all good
