Has anyone had any luck making their D sound awesome without too much effort?

I absolutely adore this car but would love to make it sound a bit meaner...it's just odd to get kicked back hard in your seat and hear next to nothing.

I'd love to hear about anybody's success stories!

To me, it's virtue lies in the fact that it is whisper quiet going around the track ahead of a row of gassers that are just whining at high rpm.

Gotta love the torque to pull you out of the Twisties in the lead

Once things are un-corked they aren't so quiet. I would consider the volume using the ebay 335I cat back with an open downpipe to be about perfect. Outside the car sounds phenomenal without being obnoxious and inside it's a very slight rumble on the freeway that disappears with the radio on but the roar is hear when moderate pedal is applied.

I'm running what whitbread is talking about but no muffjers on aft end. I got that kit minus the back 1/3 (on purpose) and had custom pieces built on back end to wrap around the underneath stowed compact spare. It is loud. My friends tell me to leave it this way with no mufflers.

You REALLY shouldn't want it VERY loud, because it draws unwanted attention from the wrong people (u k po po). LOL

And honestly how many times has a diesel pickup passed you & made ur ears hurt? NOT FUN.

But a good sound seems to be the straight exhaust with Magna-Flow mufflers!

Sound clip or it did not happen...
Thought you had added the mufflers by now.

I think tdi, and someone else have run an open element filter. Not sure on the sound difference it made.

I've ran an open filter, the sound is much greater for turbo whistle, and also the diverter valve is heard every time. The only issue was the intake temps shot up significantly when at a standstill. You can reduce this by creating your own shield, but I lost the interest in doing so. I think I still have my template somewhere.

Wrecker my brother in law does welding. I'd love to get that template if you have it and see if he can make it. Thanks.

Make a template from cardboard or stiff inexpensive material and then translate over to aluminum. The box could definitely be influenced if MAF were tuned out(per recent conversations) and larger inlet tube to turbo is used.

What BB_CUDA said, I made mine out of cardboard. It doesn't take too long to do, just a lot of tweaking.

car sounds awesome when you gut the SCR, no real need to upgrade exhaust after the SCR is gutted as it flows more than enough air. I will try to get a video of the car sometime. We ported wastegate, downpipe and SCR, sounds like an F250

Opening the intake box is an invitation to rodents that want to nestle in a comfy warm air filter and chew it up.
