335i Underbody engine splash guard
Hi All,
Today whilst driving down the M1, I heard something scrape really bad and upon investigation realized it was the tranny splash guard hanging loose. I also realized I dont have an engine splash guard (I thought I did). Probably why it came loose over time (screws and spire clips hanging out). I have zip tied the tranny guard down quite well but my question is.... Is it worth having an engine splash guard, it obviously hasnt had one for a while, so I am not sure what to think? Any input would be great Cheers FHE92 |

Yes it is worth it IMO.
Firstly, it stops road shit getting thrown up all over the engine and into the engine bay in general. It also keeps engine noise slightly more muted. Also, when it's really wet, there is a risk of the front pulleys getting wet and belts slipping (which is the reason the guards were put there in the first place). |

I will probably source one used and have it ready for the service it is due in May where Ill get the dealer to reinstall it for free as they would have had to take it off normally in the first place. Cheers for the input |

No idea.
Although plain black plastic trims/ducts/etc I've found not to be too insanely priced from BMW |

For my E90 335i it was £96 from BMW
I've been looking for a second hand one for ages but have been unsuccessful so far.

The protection of the oil pan is a reason alone for me. In the long run if you drive highway a lot the fuel savings will pay for the shield.

I suspected this, I am sure anything that has enough momentum to damage underside parts would probably break through the under shield anyway. I get cooler temps this way lol and if I drop anything whilst working on the car, I can easily retrieve it

It would protect against scrapes, but you'd be scraping for a long time before any damage was done anyway. Hard knocks will pass right through.
I imagine it also helps with the NVH factor too, smooth air is less noisy. |
