Thanks everyone else for the help so far. Once i get home i'm gonna peak around but i didnt see spots of oil anywhere even around where the valve cover gasket is.

No, is the teflon seal that does that. That injector is charred lower than where the decoupler goes. The decoupler prevents the injector from going to deep into the injector socket and damaging the head. That is all it does.

is that all the decoupler does?

Yes, without the decouple the injector will sit to low in the socket and eventually burn the hole/socket larger in the head causing constantant misfires. The injector would besically dig itself dipper into the head and will possibly get stuck into the head. Are you familiar with stuck injectors on BMW diesels? And what some people go thru in order to remove them. That is why is called decoupler.The injector from above photos is charred up to the spot where the decoupler goes thus making statments that the decoupler seals the injector invalid. If that was the case the injector would have been charred form bottom to top. Is the teflon seal that does this.
