335i PE exhaust vs 335is exhaust vs AE exhaust (NEED GUIDANCE)
For those in the know, I need the following info:
-Which exhaust has larger diameter piping? -Is the AE (always evolving / Autobahn exotic) the only TRUE dual exhaust? (IE: no X-pipe?) -Does the PE and also the is exhaust have X-pipe? -Which do you prefer from a design standpoint (NOT from a sound standpoint) -Do you feel the AE would flow better? BACK STORY: I have a catless AE exhaust. With catless DP's. And an automatic trans. The sound was underwhelming. So, I removed the 3rd and final rear section that holds the mufflers and the tips. The sound was EXCEPTIONAL. I had pops, and gurgle noises & I was very excited. I admit, that 1800rpms - 1950 rpms in 6th gear would drone throughout the entire cabin in such a manner that everything vibrated. But it was well worth the sound that I got. So, in order to move the catless smell back and out from under the car my exhaust shop cut the AE mufflers out and in place put the same diameter piping and reused the old AE tips. I still get pops and gurgles but the sound seems to be more metallic. So with that said, I am VERY interested in just purchasing a PE or 335is exhaust in order to get the sound I keep hearing in the youtube videos I've listened to. I just don't know which is a better flowing exhaust. Nor do I know the piping diameter. Thanks in advance.

The sound in the cabin will always be much different than outside behind the car especially since you now have the pipes exiting out the bumper again instead of under the car. I know that doesn't really point you in a direction but just something to think about.

Well, you are comparing mufflers, not really too much difference except the sound which comes from the packing and piping inside the mufflers. I've heard a stock 335is exhaust on the road, and it didn't sound that great to me, I assume it didn't have downpipes at all. If you have an automatic, I would personally go for the BMW PE, not sure if you are E90 or E92, but on my coupe it sounds amazing, I'm stock besides the mufflers and it's still pretty aggressive when you get on it plus no drone on the freeway.

And, to confirm, you have ONLY the PE mufflers on your otherwise stock 335i exhaust?

Yep, just mufflers, the E92 PE is just that, mufflers nothing else since we have an x-pipe already. The sound will be accentuated greatly with catless downpipes which you already have, it will pop and gurgle on demand if you play with the throttle. I've heard the AE on youtube videos but never in person so I have no basis as to how your car sounds now. I drive all the time and have a 70 mile commute each day and anything louder than the PE would be super annoying to deal with. Check out this video from Dennis Berres on youtube (linke below). He has an amazing video of an E92 BMW PE with great sound quality. His car is a 6mt, but the sound is captured perfectly.

I was behind a 335is on the road the other day - the 335is muffler is definitely quieter than my PE. Similar sound, but definitely quieter. I love my PE! I also have the PPK (still under CPO warranty so no crazy tune yet) and the muffler sounds are addicting. Quiet while cruising, no drone at all, but loud and exotic when you get on it.

OP just to be clear, you have a full AE exhaust with a muffler delete on the AE exhaust now correct? Either way there's no point in considering the iS exhaust for you since you'll be purchasing it, just get the PE or look at Meisterschaft, Dinan etc..What you're asking about is an axleback exhaust for your true dual AE setup. You have no xpipe to worry about, you should know this. But really imo and from a design standpoint you shouldn't have messed with your AE exhaust in the first place. You're now paying for 2 exhaust systems. Have you considered vibrant resonaters instead to get rid of the rasp?
