Interesting.

My cap is undamaged, and my original water pump is still working. Maybe I'll go ahead and get the new P/N cap anyway.

I don't see any evidence of causation here, or even enough examples for much correlation, but it's a reasonable theory.

My water pump died from electrical death, which is the usual failure vector as far as I know. Still running the original cap 70k miles later, it was not damaged, and still is not to this day.

the other day my fans went full blast, checked coolant tank and noticed my expansion tank cap was dmg and missing pieces. Next thing you know, it starts, idle and stalls within minutes. No fault codes or check engine light. still trying to diagnose the problem. not sure if waterpump is going out or what..
