Just dropped the car off at the dealership. The service guy said we're going to look into getting it covered by the SULEV warranty but I don't know when New York adopted SULEV so we'll have to see if your car qualifies.

First guy (service associate) called and said its not covered because it's registered in PA not New York even though the car was purchased in New York. Called the service manager and he said he can't fix it unless there is a fault code. They can't replace it just because it's leaking.

Went to pick up the car and the exhaust manifold was smoking like crazy from all the oil spilling on it but apparently that still isn't enough to cover it under this warranty.

The dealership called me back today and told me that the valve cover gasket will be covered by the SULEV warranty but I need to buy the new valve cover and all the labor will be covered. Not a horrible deal.

Yeah, I'd take them up on that. The warranty booklet explicitly lists the gasket as being covered, but doesn't list the valve cover itself. That seems odd because the reason the gasket is covered under an emissions warranty would be that it can cause a vacuum leak and thus impair engine efficiency. But a cracked valve cover would do the same. But regardless, the gasket is listed and the valve cover isn't, so I'd say that's a fine offer.

Oh yea I'm definitely taking them up on it since it saves me money either way. And the valve cover is listed at $450 or something so not that bad.

It's a vacuum tube that goes back to the intake.

Car is done and back from the dealership. One of the cylinders is misfiring at high rpm. Getting all the oil in the spark plug area messed up the coil pack
