I don't know about you guys but the advent of Waze seems to have increased the average speed on Freeways by 10-15mph. I can't tell you how many times I have been passed by a minivan going 90 mph. I always drive with it and consistently go 90 to 110 mph on the freeway. The Bay Area is thick with Waze users so it does a good job of keeping you out of trouble. Have any of you had the same experience? It has made driving infinitely more enjoyable.

I'm a big fan of Waze but I'm a little timid to do 100 -- in Virginia reckless driving is anything over 80 (!) or 20 MPH over the posted speed limit. The Nationals' Jason Werth got 10 days (after going to court) for hitting 105 on an exit ramp in his GT-3. At least he has a GT-3 right?

In CA they all seem to go about 10 mph faster than me, and I am going about 2-3 mph over the limit (actual not speedo). IMO you're asking for trouble if the differential over the average speed is too great. Don't stand out from the crowd. I try to be very selective about where I put the hammer down.

Amen...I am fortunate to live in a large state with a lot of wide open Freeways. I try to be careful and not behave like an a-hole given that BMW drivers aren't the most popular folks on the street. I also make damn sure my tires are in good shape and properly inflated. I am amazed by how infrequently folks check tire pressure. Finally I didn't put a water meth system in for my health...I use the damn thing, safely, but often thanks to Waze.

A ridiculous money grab. Clearly Virginia is more about taxing motorists than about sound engineering.

Driving at 100mph under the right conditions is hardly dangerous.

In Texas rual 2 lane roads here are 75mph, 80mph on rural interstates, and some toll ways are 85. Driving at 80-100mph here is no big deal. Heck people drive 80-90 in a 60.

Waze is great for keeping tabs on whats going on in the flow ahead of you: cops, wrecks, slow traffic, etc.

Waze is user generated live traffic coverage that directly feeds into Googles maps for traffic status. There's been talk the last few years that Google was going to kill the app, since its outlived its original intent of seeing how much data people are willing to log for free.

I've used it religiously for a year, its the first thing I set when I get in the car and then I use a Kenu + frame to hold in in the passenger's center air vent pointed at me.

Oh Virginia... Lost my license for 90 days. Paid $1000 for a lawyer, and $500 fine. Speed was 98mph
I won't go over 75mph, except exits.

VA has always been a nightmare. I remember living in DC. I only got tickets in VA. stupid speed limits and illegal to own a radar detector

On the whole speed thing. I have noticed in the last 10 years outside of urban areas people are generally driving slower. I did a couple of cross country trips last year averaging between 85-110mph.

What I've noticed is you don't see any semis doing hammer down anymore hitting 95-100mph. Mostly trucks are moving slower than ever passing at a glacial speeds. The trucks really clog up interstates now. A lot of it is they time you between weigh stations and ticket you for speeding if you mov between them too quickly

Also I used to frequently find packs of cars crushing at 125+ and would stay with them across country. 10 years ago I always found people going that fast. Now most people think fast is 90, and going over 100 is breaking the sound barrier. I remember crushing in west Texas on 2 lane roads at 125 and never even passing a signle car.....

I suspect a lot of it is people are more complaint with the speed limits as they aren't as ridiculously low anymore as they were in the early 2000s.

I'm glad waze exits I think it helps restore balance to the drivers in the never ending war on driving.

I didn't know that, makes sense though.

I remember reading that after oil started going sky high, companies where locking out company trucks from doing over the speed limit in attempts to control mileage.

Anyways I agree it sucks traveling and being stuck between them! Especially if you see in the distance one trying to overtake the other at 1 mph more!

I hate to sound like some weirdo and make this into a political issue but technology and connectedness is robbing us of, in some weird way, our ability to do dangerous things. I am all for dangerous things as long as they are done responsibly and without endangering others. However, doing what most people would call dangerous and/or irresponsible are exactly the things that make me feel alive and free.
