Would there be anyway to retrofit stronger springs, cylinders etc to make the boot fully open when unlocked, the back of my car is filthy, it would be so much nicer to unlock the boot and have it raise automatically ?

Never found racism funny, I'm clearly in the minority.

Take a look at this post again

"It is an optional extra, just kidnap a Lithuanian and store him in the boot, when you pop the fob,he'll be dead glad to see the sunlight!"

If you find it funny, congratulations, I'm sure you're posting between views of your Chubby Brown and Bernard Manning DVD's, if you don't then you'll probably understand why I'll be leaving this forum.

Happy new year to one and all, especially those who realise that not all BMW drivers are white, smug and middle class.

Well this didn't stay back on topic for long.

It would be a good mod to make if we can.

Didn't I read somewhere that in some countries the boot does auto-open? If thats the case, wouldn't we just need the relevant part numbers to order replacement parts to do this?

I wondered whether we could just get away with stronger gas cylinders ? the boot unlocks via the key fob and just needs extra power to get it to lift.

My old e46 (as well as the e39) would allow you to open the boot independently of the rest of the locks. My Stealer (and the manual) say something about this only working 'in certain markets' - which means that there must be a frig somewhere to reprogramme the key/car!

I think the E92 boots is more 'weighted' so that it takes minimal effort to shut it [only requires a little pull on the inside handle and it slams shut] Hence why i don't think the struts would be able to lift it without a helping hand.

Not sure which way i'd rather have it. Not sure i'd want it flying open due to comments made about accidently pressing the keyfob.

I catch your drift Bells0, my current car (e46 Compact) allows the boot to open fully (hanging some 14 feet in the air), just from the push of a button.
One evening I managed to push the boot release on the key fob and only realised on the next morning what I had done... and it rained...

I will definitely miss the function, but I guess its something I can live with and live without.

I had this function on my E60 (530d) and the ability to pop open the boot as you walked towards the car carrying stuff was absolutely brilliant. The fact that it popped up meant that you didn't have to touch the outside of the car at all. I miss it every time I get dirty fingers opening the boot in this filthy weather. If there was a retro-fit for the E92, I'd be very interested.
