My Bulova Automatics

I've always had this thing with watches but not to the extreme of some of you all. I've always had quartz watches and only recently decided to get into mechanical/automatics. Did a lot of reading to get an understanding of the movements used in these watches.

Anyways, I don't see much discussion about Bulova watches. I liked the chrono offerings from Raymond Weil and IWC but didn't want to spend the coin for one. Sort of amazing the price range considered to be "affordable" with many of you guys on here. So after much searching, I found watches from Bulova which appeals to my sense of style and are "affordable" to me.

I bought the one on the right first a few weeks ago. It's a Bulova 97A121 with a 21 jewel Japanese movement (Miyota maybe?). I ran across pictures of the one on the left and got sucked in to finding one. It's a Bulova Accutron Gemini 63C107 chrono. Doing some research it has a ETA 7750 Swiss movement (same as the TAG Heuer Calibre 16). The watch is also Swiss made with Saphire crystal. I just got it this week. So far loving both watches.

Nice! That Gemini Chrono is sharp! Will have to look into further. How's the weight/size?

I have two of the Precisionists - this particular silver and the rose gold with black face. Very classify design and easy daily wearable. Great size for me as well. I won't do smaller than a 40-42mm crown.

Nice. I just started looking at the Bulova Gemini Chrono as a daily wearer to rotate in with a few other watches. It reminds me of my tag, and with a similar movement (Tag "Dresses" up the 7750 a little). The fact that you can find these around $500 is a steal considering the 7750 movement itself tends to go for around $400.

There's some substantial weight to it. It's the heaviest watch I own now. I thought the Movado ESQ chrono was heavy. The case size is about 42mm and I think it's about 15 to 16mm thick.

I was also looking at the Precisionists and actually the very exact one you posted up. But I'm pretty much done buying watches for a while. Buying 3 watches in a span of about 4 months is enough for now.

Exactly. I got mine from an eBay seller for $420. I just showed it to one of my coworkers who has been a long time watch nut. He said the watch is very well made.

I guess there's been a run on this particular model on eBay. After I bought mine, the other 3 the seller had for sale all sold in less than a week.

Can't go wrong on a watch with an eta 7750 movement for $500 regardless of the brand on the face! Who cares what the brand is. As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters. Great looking watches! It's a horrible hobby to get into. But oh man is it fun haha

right? so expensive when you can google search and find 1000s of watches with great swiss movements at relatively affordable prices. Before you know it, youve spent thousands

Some are quartz some are automatic. Just depends on the model.

Don't think they've made the tuning forks for 40 years now

Yeah. The Accutron I own is an automatic. As csu87 mentioned, I don't think they're using the tuning forks anymore. The closest current watch to the tuning fork is this:

Precisionist 98B267. I might break down and buy one in the future. It's wild seeing a quartz movement watch have a silky smooth second hand sweep. Saw it in person at a local store and just sat there for a few minutes staring at the second hand moving like a mechanical/automatic.

Exactly. Hence why I posted up this thread as I haven't seen any discussion about Bulova's here. So happy with the watch where I didn't have to spend over a $1000 to get the same movement as the recognized "quality" watches. And frankly, many of the watches in the $1000 to $10,000 range just turn me off with their styling.

No problem. It is a great dress watch and usually a conversation piece. All original too. Family heirloom.
