Glad you figured it out, I had the same noise and my heart sank. Thankfully it was just a plug that wasn't torqued properly.

Having a loose plug make a noise like that must beat the hell out of the threads in the head...

Best to just buy some new plugs to avoid issues down the road.
I started with the plugs, but i failed to check the good ones for comparison Im bringing the car back to the shop. They'll warranty it and it'll stay overnight for an inspection.

Yeahh forreals. I even tried contacting bmw specialist from the area and they couldn't wrap their head around it. It's one of those uncommon issues. I can't imagine the plugs getting loose after 7k or so miles. Now the question is, how did it become loose.

I JUST CAME BACK FROM THE GARAGE AND HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT IT IS INDEED THE STUPID PLUGS. Just out of curiosity, I took all the plugs out (1,2,3,4 knocks). I compare those plugs to 5,6. I noticed 1,2,3,4 all have spun plugs. I can literally spin the white part of the plug, but somehow it still manages to stay intact with the bottom. While 5 and 6 are not spun. This explains why when I press the coils, it quiets down.

FUKINGGG A. I shoulda took all the plugs out earlier and not just focusing on the knocking ones.. Question is HOW THE HELL CAN A PLUG GET SPUN??? HEAT?? WHAT CONNECTS THEM TOGETHER WITH THE BOTTOM, DOESNT SEEM MECHANICAL. HIGH TEMP GLUE? LOL
Glad it was something simple! That's the most important aspect.

How does that happen, same way a mechanic breaks valves, they don't know what they're doing. Don't go back to them LOL

When I had plugs loose in my car, it sounded like rod knock also. I was like, oh shoot, my car is about to go. Then when I put my hand on the coil packs, I felt massive pulsation and go figure, spark plug loosened itself. Glad it wasn't anything more serious!

Your warranty company demands you use a specific mechanic? This may or might not be the mechanics fault but what red flagged me was the broken valve comment. Not sure if that was there fault or not but people are human so mistakes happen.

The broken valve was their fault cuz he didnt install it properly. I am glad they took responsibility and gave me a new set. The warranty is to that specific shop not sure about the mechanic. Seems like he's the only one that works on bimemrs while others work on imports and such.
