The first pic is exactly what I see while Driving. The gauge isn't hidden by the steering wheel or anything. In the second pic, I sat in the back seat and rested the camera on top of the head rest. You can see how good the color match is. Oh also the other device above the radio is my XM, fyi.

I don't know about the headlight power. I didn't try those out because I needed mine to be on in the day time also. I tapped into the cig lighter.

OK guys,
I thought I would give you an update with this gauge. I'll just plain out say it--I hooked it up incorrectly! That's right. This is the reason why I was having a hard time reading the gauge in the day time. But, to give me a little credit, the directions are extremely vague. The directions state the follwing with the wiring: red wire goes to ignition 12V Yellow wire is for lighting 12V Black is ground That's it. I swear! Now what I was thinking is that the light has to be on all the time so I hooked the yellow and red wire together. Well, if you hook up the yellow wire to a headlight switch, you have the following condition--12V if the lights are on and 0V if the lights are off. If the lights are off then the LED in the gauge is twice as bright so you can read it in the day time. When the lights are on and there is 12V going to the yellow wire then the LED in the gauge will dim. It makes sense based on the smoked lense but it said absolutely nothing about this in the directions or manual. I've already purchased the same gauge but with a clear lense, so now I guess I'll just keep the one that I like the best. Let me know if you'd like one of these gauges.

When I asked about an eye-level shot at night, though, I was thinking about the view through the windshield. Can you see a reflection of the gauge in the windshield at night? To illustrate this in a photo, take a driver's eye-level shot at night, out the windshield, with the boost gauge and instrument cluster at bottom of frame. I don't have a boost gauge, but I do have a spare digital camera. What I did was place my spare camera in the same location at you've placed your gauge. Then, I took a picture of it at night in the manner described above. As you can see in the attached photo, a reflection of the camera's rear LCD can be seen on the windshield. This seemingly minor issue can be a rear annoyance on a dark, unfamiliar road, as I discovered in my old B5 S4. I messed around with tilting the camera to eliminate the reflection, but I had to nearly lay it flat on the dash (not a realistic choice for a gauge). I'm starting to think that any lighted gauge close to the windshield will need a cowl, but maybe the smoked lens on your gauge is another option... The $64k question: does your gauge have this problem? Thanks again for all your diligence on this topic. -Rob |

Here are some pics of my defi boost gauge and controoler...I have it in the same spot as you Mr. 5. I also got the hat for the sun during the day. Didnt really need it but it def. made it llook sharper and made it illuminate better, I installed the controller under my Euro light switch.
Anyway My hg usually sits between 18-22Hg, My peak boost is 17psi and itt hits 14- 14.5 strong during WOT.

I see what you're talking about and the bright blue screen would definitely be an annoyance for me.
The answer to your question is that i do get some sort of reflection but it's hardly noticable. I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. It's not as bad as yours. Not even close. The night shot that i took is pretty much exactly what I see. Quote:

I just posted a for sale thread to sell this gauge since I purchased another one before I figured out that I wired it incorrectly.
Thought I would let you guys know just in case you want to pick this up. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107012
