Urgent car at dealer now please help with belt squeaking

I have a 2008 335xi coupe and what looks like the tensioner and pulley is squeaking when the car is idling. The car has 80,000 miles on it and I just thought that would need to be replaced, the dealer is claiming that the oil housing pan is leaking onto the belt and that's why it's making noise and it will be 1,500. Does this sound right?

Its not a pan, it's the oil filter housing gasket, and yes they tend to leak around the filter and underneath and drip onto the belt over time. 1500 sounds expensive. If u are around Chicago buy the parts il replace it for 250 belts, tensior, idle pulley and gasket.

How much should it cost to have done? I just thought it was odd since I have never had the oil light come on

Parts alone cost 200 maybe less from ecstuning..but since they charge by the hour and have a hourly fee of probably 150hr for 6hrs that's 900bucks labor and rest is parts, but they sell parts for much more than what they get it for. I'd say 500-600 is fair for dealer replacement, but that won't happen. They cant make money

I just wanted to make sure it was in fact leaking and they weren't just making that up. I'll try and talk them down on price

You can see ofh, its on top of motor and easy to see. Look at it and see if actually leaking. Probably is if never replaced.

My dealer wanted $700-800 for the OFHG if I remember correctly. Local indy did it for $375. That's without the belt tensioner & belt though, which had previously been replaced on my car by the dealer for $425.

replacing the gasket is super easy... It's like $12 for the bolts and another $12 for the gasket. Oh having a Oil Filter removal tool makes things much easier $20. Everything is on top of the engine so easy to get to.

Seriously for the money you save you can buy two round trip tix to Vegas plus a hotel room for a night or two.
