Logs and dynos have been posted elsewhere, the stage 1 with billet compressor and clipped turbines picked up some ponies and should be more reliable, oem level replacements should not rattle. Why oh why would anybody steer you to bmw oem if it's not a warranty replacement is beyond me.

For the amount to install + the cost of the turbos.
Stage 1 makes more sense. You are already in for $2000+ for the install (don't know exactly) + $1200 for the turbos (add $300 if you want upgrades thrust bearings). The difference in price is $500. Not insignificant, but worth it if you plan to run a tune.

I'm intrested in this is also. I want to keep my car stock and want to know as well what is a good oem replacement. Is there an oem turbo replacement that garentees no waste gate rattle down the road? I would be installing the turbos myself so not considering how much it is for labor, just good quality oem turbo replacements (tischer sells the pair for 1200, but not including the gasket kit)

i have the vargas oem replacements. Installed at 72k miles and am at 85k. Zero issues. I got them on a black friday sale so after core trade-in, I got them at a sweet price.

It's unfortunate there are so many vargas haters (who likely aren't even customers) because there are actually a lot of guys enjoying their cars with their turbo's. That being said, all turbo manufacturers have failures. Roll the dice or go OEM (those fail too).

Ive been rocking the stage 1s with upgrades for a lil over a year now. ive drove the car across country twice and have tracked the car. Turbos are holding up with no rattle. The only thing that sucks is the price had dropped on. But thats just how it is when stuff is out for a while they go down in price.
