MC 335i M Sport - Progress Thread

Hi there,

Im new to the forum, however not new to the e92's, having previously owned a 320D on a 58 plate, i have taken the plunge with a 07 335i.

The car itself, is Grey, black leather elec memory seats, Manual, pro nav, sunroof, loads of history, and M359 Rep wheels which are mint.

I will be undertaking some minor mods, thinking of refurbing alloys to gloss black, Gloss Black Grilles, Performance Spoiler, Change out the silver interior trim, and I also require a new gear knob and a steering wheel re-trim.

Any advice is welcomed

need some pointers as to who to go with the steering wheel trim, anyone have any experience of anyone to use?

Pics to come

How are you finding the difference between the two cars? I've got a 320d and I honestly can't faulty it especially with it being a LCI. That being said I constantly keep looking at DCT 335i's on AT and pistonheads....

Biggest thing apart from the big power upgrade is the difference between Diesel and Petrol, although both Turbo cars, i find the petrol to be more wanting to push on, where as from my diesel experience was huge gulp of power then over.
The brakes are a huge improvement!

An LCI would have been lovely but this opportunity came up cheap so i nabbed it.
Few wear and Tear items will make me love it a bit more

A DCT as you mentioned would be lovely, but I'm a manual fan

@MC consider piano black, instead of the silver it goes great with black leather and in fact it's the only inner trim I like and luckily have.
@Rich, I have DCT and it is much better than normal auto, but if you are a die hard manual driver you will miss manual after a while, just. Stop looking, start buying

For the steering wheel re-trim speak to Jack at Royal Steering Wheels, I've used his before for an old E46 wheel, he's done a few on here and is very popular in the E46 world, really can't fault his work!

Get some pics up of the motor!

@smuler Yes I'm thinking piano black will look best, i do have some carbon wrap left over from previous projects so may give that an attempt on the trim

@James thank you, I have contacted Royal Steering Wheels for a quote, just awaiting correspondance back.

hoping to get all bits sorted before putting the car on the road properly, still have my 320D as haven't put it for sale yet

Congrats on the purchase. They are superb motors and so much potential.

Another recommendation for Jack for your steering wheel. I've had about 4 done from over the years.

Jack also did my wheel. Saw Raj's wheel at Gaydon and I had mine in the post to him 3 days later! I went for a flat bottom one

So the past week i have been busy pulling the interior trims out and carbon wrapping them
I really hated the silver trim as i felt it let the look down as it was scratched and dented.

I think the overall interior has improved with this
I have found a replacement steering wheel instead of having the current one re trimmed
Just on the hunt for a gearknob now, unsure whether to get original bmw m sport or go for the performance one

Get the old E46 clubsport one, it happens to be exactly the same as the manual M4 gear knob

Garage List
2011 E90 M3  [0.00]
Gearknob wise, go for the F10 M5 illuminated knob. Suspect the M3/M4 manual knob is the same. I fitted one to my 335i and wired it into the ashtray light. It's weighted and makes a nice difference to the throw and feel. Definitely recommended. I also have a tri-stitched steering wheel which lifts the interior a little.

Looks very nice, this is exactly what I want done for my interior. Same story the silver just does not do the inside justice and it is scratched quit badly at some points.

May have to buy some wrap myself and do it now I have seen how nice it can look!

So i received a quote back foe the steering wheel re-trim and i thought it was slightly expensive
Instead i started searching for a second hand good condition steering wheel
I managed to pick one up for 90 GBP delivered and this way i can sell on my old steering wheel to recuperate some money

Installed yesterday morning

Nice but although seems expansive the retrimmed wheel is so much better as its thicker and a nice matt finish.

Agreed, it would have been lovely but with one eye on the pennies (not a great idea when modding/upgrading a bmw) i chose best option at the time

So as i am using up annual leave this week i have decided to tackle the wheels myself
They are in pretty much mint condition bar a few tiny kerb marks
I believe they are hyper silver (sprayed black with a top layer of silver)
I feel the grey would be set of lovely by full gloss black wheels
This morning i whipped off one side of the wheels started flatting them back and spraying them up

As you can see my old bmw is still here and yet to be put for sale
Needs to go on next week
The finish is excellent so far with 2 wheels complete
Extremely happy and looking forward to seeing them in the daylight tomorrow
Update to follow

Are the disks/hubs just painted with hammerite? Brush or spray? They look good!
