2007 330d E92 De-Flapping...Questions
So after reading forums for few weeks and recently acquiring E92 330d i had a look and ended up finding a oil leak from under the manifold...so decided to do more reading and decided to take it all apart. After stripping it down all the flaps look good no cracks just leaking from under three of them and all the way down the bock.
So after cleaning the EGR decided to remove the flaps and give them a good clean after i removed them i soaked them in a degreaser...well they dont look too good to be honest So...this is where im at do i buy new flaps but i cant seem to find them anywhere...second option is to have them blanked but from what i have read the car will suffer a power loss and reduced MPG ?!?! I dont have a clue but i would like to get to the bottom of the best possible way to deal with this. Few photos of the leak and the flaps: So after reading forums for few weeks and recently acquiring E92 330d i had a look and ended up finding a oil leak from under the manifold...so decided to do more reading and decided to take it all apart. Blank them off. No worries about whether they might break etc..
Piece of mind if nothing else. You wont notice any difference when driving 99% of the time. |

Preventitive wise its a good move to replace re difference in driving some report a slightly crisper throttle response some report no difference but with the blanks in place oil loss from the manifold will be under control plus there is less risk moving forward re possible damage due to swirl flap issues later on(though the later ones are far stronger than the earlier ones)those swirls you've taken out don't look too bad we've done shed loads some of the leaks like below that cause a few issues
and sometimes when removed the swirls though more robust can also suffer where circled below you can see where the casing has been erroded away, so IMO worth doing Last edited by old grey steve; 03-29-2016 at 03:31 PM.. |

Great its good to know that i will be at least eliminating the possibility of that happening...
Another question im not exactly sure when it comes to assembling it all back do i re attach the swirl flap moving mechanism ? To me it has no purpose as the flaps are deleted but i might be wrong. |

Blanks have arrived but...no seals I have purchased from eBay listing it had all the rubber of rings and seals in the photos but there is a small print in the listing that they are not included!!! I'm slightly pissed off as I wanted to sort it all out today so do I need new seals I'm guessing that I do...or can I use gasket maker ?

And by gasket sealant I mean tiger seal...around the areas circled in the photo and then stick them on top of the old seals so it bonds together? or just completely remove the old seals and replace them with tiger seal ?
