Bumper ding
So I was involved in an accident in a parking lot where I was backing into a spot and the guy in the adjacent spot was backing out and we simultaneously hit each other as we were both moving. We decided to just take care of it on our own since technically we were both at fault. I don't want to use my insurance because my collision deductible is $1000. I figure I'll just need a new bumper, and I can't imagine that being more than $1300ish.
Can anyone confirm whether or not I'll need a new bumper or if this can somehow be smoothed out or something? There is noticeable cracking/warping on the top of the bumper, but no damage to the trunk thankfully. Also, how difficult would it be to replace the bumper myself (and then just take it to a shop for painting)? And does anyone have recommendations for good body shops for BMW in the Ventura County/Santa Barbara, California area? Thanks guys!! |

Yikes that's more than a ding. Kind of hard to tell from the picture but I'd just buy a rep bumper from a vendor and have it painted if I were you. I had my M3 rep front purchased and painted for under $500. If you have patience you should be able to install it.

Have you tried buffing out the other cars paint scratches, its hard to tell but it doesn't look like anything severe.. Only thing i see that is a little bit of trouble is the top being cracked but im sure it can get welded with plastic (assuming its a plastic bumper) sanded and smoothed out again.. With some good prep and paint it'll look new again.. Thats just my opinion though

I had someone rearend me at a red light and had the bumper replaced and repainted and it cost close to $900 although there were some minor trunk alignment issues as well.

I had the rear "bumper trim panel" professionally replaced on my 2011 335i M-Sport Coupe in March 2015.
Total cost (paid by insurance): $1,434 They did a great job.
