HELP e90 335i 08 Bottom grille

So I bought my 335i about 2-3 months ago and have realized a few days ago on the drivers side the bottom grille is covered (see pic through link )

Does anyone know why?
Is there something behind it? Or why one side is covers and the other isnt???( don't wanna remove bumper just to check because I heard it's a pain)

I was thinking of using a dremal tool and trimming them to make it look like the other side

Thoughts?

The driver side has one opening for the brake duct. The passenger side has two openings, one for the brake duct, and the other for the oil cooler. Look up the duct with a flash light, or behind the fender liner and you will see an extra radiator. That's the oil cooler.
