Thoughts on Westboro, Grafton area

Guys,

Looking to move out to the west area, as my wife works in Worcester.

Pretty new to the area, what are your thoughts on Grafton, Westborough, Maynard or towns around there?

Those are three very rural areas, so it depends on what you are looking for.

I live next to maynard. It's getting better. Acton is nice but pricey.

Not yet we are expecting our first kid in July hence looking to move out. Plus my wife is a pharmacist in the Worchester area so traveling from Boston to there is rough. Hence we are looking for a place in that area.

Sudbury is excellent for schools. Not as expensive as Weston, Wellesley, Wayland...but still pricey.

Move to Acton.

Ranked #11 across the entire united states in best town to live in: http://time.com/money/3984418/acton-...-to-live-2015/

https://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyl...j2O/story.html

The Acton-Boxborough Regional High School is ranked #20 in the state and #12 in STEM education, with 30% minority enrollment. Commuter rail access, etc.

Good elementary schools and 5 or 6 to choose from based on what is best for your child.

If you can afford to live here it's a decent place. Afford is the BIG word. But if you are looking at Sudbury or Wayland you has $$$. I prefer Acton over Sudbury personally.

There are a few BMW enthusiasts in the area as well.

You are going to pay both taxes and for real estate in the towns that have better schools.

If you don't have kids and are just looking for a starter home you should consider towns like Grafton and Maynard. You will get a lot more for your money and they are nice towns.

I live in Acton and can personally attest to the high quality schools but you pay for it in property tax. I've heard Sudbury, Westboro, and Northboro also have good schools.

Hello fellow actonite. I'm in South acton and working on setting up my garage, got a compressor and tools creeper Jack's etc.. If you ever need help let me know.

Fwiw the maynard schools and town in general is getting a lot better. Nothing wrong with starting there with a plan to move or any other town that is not considered 'top tier'.

Acton taxes: single tax rate for fiscal 2015 of $19.05 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. So an average to low house is say 350k so $6'600 per year year or $550 a month. So yeah you pay alot to live here. But it's safe and the schools are great. It is what it is...

Edit: because of the high taxes once kids goto college a number of people move to a house in another town where you get a larger house for less money and your house has hopefully appreciated in value a good deal over your 20 or so years here.

Thanks for the offer. That's very generous. You ever get that car out to the track?
