CBU, JBD, SCR, EGR, SES, Power Loss... 2010 335D
Picked up the car in "fair" condition, one owner who commuted daily from Hamilton, ON to Toronto, ON.
Took ownership and put it on the road July 2014 with ~94,000km on the ODO. I have since: - switched oil to LiquiMoly, regular changes - replaced suspension components with 'M' components - full alignment - complete brake job - replaced two front bearings - installed JBD (i'll leave out cosmetic stuff, i.e. LUX) I have been driving the car progressively 'harder', but smoothly. I'll be popping the lid to check CBU status in a month or so... but I have to say that this car has ZERO issues. It was strong the day I picked it up, and it pulls hard, and consistent all the way to redline. No lights (other than when I get on it too soon with the JBD @ 100%), no codes, no problems, and it's just getting stronger, pulling harder, and getting better fuel economy. Initially I was getting around 650-700km per tank. I started adding Lucas fuel treatment (not an endorsement) as I did in my former MKIV TDI Golf, and noticed a slight but steady improvement in power and mileage. I would suggest that I am averaging around 850-1000km per tank with no effort towards economical driving. I always reset my trip meter at each fill up - most recent being yesterday afternoon. This morning, I looked at my dash as I was stopped at a light near my office and took this pic: ... 304km travelled, 807km remaining. This isn't a matter of 'granny driving' to artificially inflate the mileage remaining number either! This tank will likely be a record for me (current record is 1000km full tank to low fuel warning). Just wanted to share... not all 335D's are problematic, or I'm just super lucky and have a factory freak. I love this car for it's economy, practicality, and sleeper status. ![]() Am I alone?

...and then this morning, a week and a day into ownership, my SES light came on, lol. Goes in on Friday for diagnosis. I am still hoping you are not alone and this is just a fluke |

Do you know if the PO had any CBU work done on the car?
Also if you have the service records when were the Programming Recalls applied? Last edited by dzlmoose; 05-08-2015 at 09:16 PM.. |

@dixy2k: I haven't been keeping a record of the regens. I have a Note 3 mounted as a dedicated TORQUE display with EGT as one of the gauges. I have it set to flash when the temp implies a regen cycle is occurring. So, I do know when they occur, however I am not keeping a record.
@dzlmoose: Nope - no idea. I never looked into service records either.

update - getting p205b/c codes triggered.
I know there is a recall. A couple of minutes on the phone with TCBMW and I've got a loaner and a day to drop off my car for the recall work. Funny interaction on the phone.... when I gave my number to look up my file they found every car I've ever brought there over the past 15 years. (E30, E39, E38, E46) We added my D to the list and booked it for the 25th. Should I remove the JBD? I have no warranty and don't really care... just want to be sure it's not in conflict with the recall. Point being made - still love this car, and if there's a recall they're honoring without any hassle, I don't consider it a problem. R.

Is this a recall that should have been done 2 years ago?

You seem to give them a lot of business, so they probably like you. That being said, I probably would remove the JBD, unless you have a personal relationship with all personnel concerned. Never want to give them a reason to cause problems for you. IMO.

Right on the money. SCR in-tank temp sensor broke. They're replacing the whole tank. All handled under warranty; no problem in my book.
Will have them check the recalls in the stickies when they call back. I think when the warranty goes, so too does the emissions system. Last edited by charlie fairmont; 05-17-2015 at 06:43 PM.. |

Reviving this thread.
211,111 km just rolled by and this machine STILL puts an ear to ear grin on my face every day. This car has RUINED all other basic mid-size sedans for me. I ended up swapping the DEF tank, and I now have a backup tank (there is a company in the west end the repairs them with a lifetime warranty for a few hundred bucks). Other than that, STILL no issues! Time for pads now, just did an oil change yesterday as well. I switched to AMSoil, but I found I lost some economy (50-100km per tank), and regens occur much more frequently. I'm unsure how this is related, but my observations indicate that there could be some relation. I switched back to LiquiMoly TT. Filters always OEM. I'll run through this oil and on the next one start watching for regen frequency changes and fuel economy. Is there another car that can compare out there?

Petro Canada - noticeably better mileage and performance. I use Petro 99% of the time. Shell - if I have to Esso - worst performance and mileage both in my TDI and my 335d. I avoid Esso, even if it means driving while the low fuel indicator is on to get to ANY station other than Esso. On top of the bad mileage, for some reason Esso's seem to have the WORST staff, the dirtiest stores, and generally shitty customer service.

Had my steptronic shifter fail last week. Would not enter and maintain 'DS' mode.
Going into 'D', it would remain in 'D'. Shifting to 'DS' would not change the indicator from 'D' to 'DS'. Shifting up/down would shift the gear (M1, M2, etc...), but not hold - rather it would shift back to 'D' after maintaining steady throttle for 5-15 seconds. Yesterday, I Opened up the shifter assembly (SUPER easy!) and found the (common) root cause - broken wire due to tension and movement. I followed a simple DIY and in 30 minutes I had the wiring repaired, re-routed to a safer location, and tested before I buttoned everything up. I'm waiting for things to warm up outside before I replace my failed LUX V5 color changing angel eye (driver's side) today. All in all, just minor stuff and this car STILL rocks! It wouldn't have been any different with another car and my driving patterns. ![]() It will be interesting to see if I can hit 500,000km on it on the stock DPF. ![]()
