[Advice] Please talk me out of this (M3)

Alright so, rebuilt title, got it. Price too good to be true? Definitely. It's actually 24k on the CL listing. All my red flags have been set off. I was saving for an M3, and was planning for around 35-40k, but then this pops up. I can afford an M3, that's not an issue, but to save so much money just for a salvage title? Anyone able to look up the VIN and see a more detailed account of what happened? Here is the VIN: WBSWL93548P331379 Thoughts / experiences on salvage title vehicles? ** What I don't need is anyone calling me an idiot for exploring options. I'm just musing. ** Thank you. |

I'd steer clear; honestly this thing looks beat. If you have the money for an M3, buy a nice one that's exactly what you want. If you're spending that much money on a vehicle that you're going to drive for a few years, don't settle/cheap out.
I'm sure if you bought this and ever decided to sell it, the value would be low and it would likely be a tough sell. |

Honestly, it's really up to you. If you think the price is right, which is not the bad go for it, don't take advice from anybody in here, take a look at it, run the VIN and go take it for a test drive. Do your homework first.

Front bumper fitment on that car looks poor. Airbag has been deployed according to the cluster and hasn't been reset. Personally I don't like the wheels or tinted headlights but that's just me.
Probably has a hard life and it doesn't look like the repairs would have been done at a high standard in my opinion.

I wouldn't just look at the fitment of the front end, both fenders + headlights look off.
Also the bumper fitment with hood, take a look at the driver headlight the bumper is wavy under the headlight. Likely a replica bumper. Lastly sounds like that airbag light can be either a deployed active headrest or they just didn't clear the lights. Regardless looks like a bad purchase, unless you get it for a steal! Say $20k flat or under. Last edited by DaZuc; 10-06-2015 at 10:05 PM.. |

Thank you for the responses.
I took a look at the car today, but was scared away by the dealer more so than the car. Talk about shady. Dudes looked like members of the italian mafia and were extremely uncomfortable to be around. I had 2 of them surround me and were practically interrogating me as to why I'm looking at the car if I already have a 335i. I tried to leave and they kept blocking my path. Wtf? No doubt in my mind there's shenanigans afoot with 3/4 of that lot, and that they'd probably bury me out back if there were ever an issue with titles or whatnot. Moving on. |

I'm saving too, and can also afford to buy a salvage now. But there's no point, wait it out. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with a salvage car, but the only way I'll ever drive one is if I'm the one who fixed it in the first place.

You get what you pay for.... They're selling it for what it's worth (and their 25% profit). I might be tempted if I was mechanically skilled and could buy it wholesale at an auction.

Run away.
Spend a bit more on a clean title M3. It's the last generation of the ///M3 as they are now called ///M4's. It's also the last of a real naturally aspirated M engine. The e9x M3 cars will be collectables. I honestly wish I bought one over my 335i as resale value would be better. In the future, prices could rise just like the E30 M3. When that happens, you'll wish you spent more on a clean title M3. Spend more now, get a better car today, and get a higher resale value in the future. |
