Rear Brake Pad replacement - question on selection

Hey Folks,

I'm doing a brake fluid flush shortly on my '09 335i and am intending to change my REAR pads (pads only, not rotors) and sensor at the same time.

I'm probably going to order via FCPeuro and my choices are:

Akebono (ceramic) $74

Meyle (semi-metallic) $47

Genuine BMW $82

My front brakes are still good for a while so will remain OEM original for now.

I've heard good things about the Akebono, except for initial bite, which is a bit concerning. I've never had ceramic pads before.

I haven't been able to find any reviews on the Meyle replacement pads for our cars. From the description they sound like a fairly close facsimile of the OEM pads, which hopefully means they do have good bite. And they're cheaper!

For my situation what do you guys suggest? Thanks.

PS - hoping to place the order later today.

If the brake dust doesn't bother you and you don't track your car, stock pads are pretty good.

I've used Akebono on other cars. Initial bite is a bit less than others, but they work just fine. They dust very little and seem to last pretty long.

Never tried Meyle, or seen a review, or talked to anyone who has used them..

To an extent brake pads are a matter of choice, trading certain abilities over others.

If you're not tracking and running high speeds to the point of brake fade (which is freaky if/when it happens -- i.e., it gives you the ohh crap I'm going to drive through that wall or run off the track feeling) you're probably OK with any of the three.

Recall that most of your stopping power comes out of the front set-up. That's where decisions are critical.

agreed. If the car isn't going to see the track, any of these three will do. I'd feel more comfortable making sure my rears matched the fronts, but I suppose that isn't super critical.

as mentioned above, most of your braking is done up front, so make sure whatever attributes you favor most are present in your front pads too.
