Quick tech question re n52 surging at idle
After a very aggressive romp home today I noticed the car surging at idle. I turn the car off and restart and it's gone.
I've recently replaced the plugs and coils with the OE parts (newer Delphi coils BMW now recommends) and changed my idler pulley, tensioner and accessory belt just the other day. Neither of those was related, but was just done on the normal maintenance schedule. I did recently pull both Vanos solenoids and blow them out/clean them, but if it was them I would have expected a code. I usually clean them every 15-20k miles. Wonder if anyone has any idea of where to start looking. Not a single code. Wondering if this may be a malfunctioning DISA unit, but I'd hate to replace them without knowing for sure. I've cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner as a precaution, and haven't had it out yet for a good hard run since, thought I'd see what you all thought. Here's what it sounds like when it does happen. I had just been out thrashing on it. |

It's back, it may be battery related. Previous owner never re-registered the new battery. #facepalm.
I'm going to try and fond someone who can scan the car and see what was previously registered and then go from there. Hopefully it's lead acid, but maybe it was AGM previously and the lead acid battery was put in by some idiot who didn't know better. More to come... |

I popped for the full Carly setup for iPad/phone. I have the $80 v2 wifi connector from Amazon Prime, and spent the money for the in-app upgrade to register batteries & reset service info. So I'm fully invested to the tune of about $135.00 on Carly stuff, but it was totally worth it.
All the idle issues seem to have disappeared, and I coded in a couple more features as well while I was there. I know for sure Thursday when I drive up North for 30 miles. Let me know if you want anything coded or registered. FWIW I do like beer and any decent Spanish red wine. Cheers! Last edited by NiNeTyOne; 04-25-2016 at 11:53 PM.. |
