Did they fry my amp?

Hello Everyone,

I recently had my car ( 328xit 2011) in at Tires Plus to change out my tires and get an alignment. During the alignment my car was left in the on position with car not running, but they left the air conditioner on, so my car would not start and needed a jump. The jump was done with a hand held battery device. The next day I realized my speakers were not working, not for the door chime, not for the stereo not for my back up, nothing.

Is it possible that during the jump starting of my car that it could have fried my amplifier or something, or is it just a crazy coincidence?

I read the posts and I do realize this is a common BMW problem, so if it could be a fuse that I need to check please advise, I did check the fuses in the glove box but I'm not sure if I got the right one since the card hieroglyphics makes little to no sense. Also is there a fuse on the AMP itself?

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks all!

More likely they depleted the battery causing

More likely they depleted the battery causing
the ibs to kick in and allocate what little power you
have in the battery to run essential functions.

Try putting a full charge on the battery and/or run a battery
test.
check the battery voltage with a voltmeter ir you have one.

Also did they jump from the underhood jump points ?
If they jumped from inside the car or at the battery they could have
blown fuses or other stuff.
Read about the IBS in the first electrical pdf.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I was in the car waiting to hit start, so I did not see what he used as a jump point but it was in the front hood. Everything in the car seems to be working including navigation and bluetooth, just not the speakers. I might add that when I was trying to get the sound to work I did hear some static from speakers when turning the knob up, not sure if that is anything.

ibs

The electric loads in the vehicle are divided into the following groups:
– Legally required electric loads (i.e. side lights, hazard warning system)
– Convenience for the customer (i.e radio, telephone)
These electric loads are excluded from the closed-circuit monitoring system in order to
avoid misinterpretation by the power management function, however these electric loads
must log in with the power management function. In turn, the power management function
recognizes the activity and accepts the higher power consumption until the systems
are deactivated and these control modules log off with the power management function.
The power management function within in the DME can send a request to switch off
active electric loads in stationary mode depending on the battery charge status and the
start capability limit. As a result of the request, the stationary loads must deactivate their
functions irrespective of the terminal status and must reach their closed-circuit current
within 5 minutes. Legally required electric loads are excluded from this function.

How can bluetooth work without sound?
page34 and onward for the first pdf.

If the radio or idrive is on it could be your amp.
There is a fuse for the amp I believe . It would be good
to do a visual on the amp. Do you have Hi Fi or the L7 system?

Sorry did not mean to confuse, I meant the phone still connects to the BMW bluetooth, no sound.

Just to be clear, I should go and have the battery checked, and if that is not running correctly, if I repair/replace it everything should be back to normal, or is there something else I need to do?

I am amazed with your information and knowledge, not to mention your help! Thank you!

check the basics first.

check the basics first. Logically jumping worked so the battery is
was depleted or bad.
battery depleted check battery.
check fuses for amp look for the fan running on the amp
and or indicator lights on the amp .
then scan for error codes with a bmw compatible scanner or
software setup.
